Hard Disks List

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i hope in an help to resolve my problem. I have two had disks in my PC. One is C: that contains just the Operating system and the other is B: that contains only the programs.

i had to reformat my PC and in the meantime I have updated to the latest Operating System. I have to make a new Acronis  Backup of the two hard disk But I notice difference between the oldest structure of the Hard disks and the new one. Before I had the Hard Disk listed as

first the Hard Disk that contains the Operating System and second the Hard Disk that contains the program now I see them inverted and if I make the backup as it is, when I go to restore it I do not get restored on the correct Hard Disk.

please how can I resolve it?

Thanks

Enzo

Enzo, the first question here is:  does Windows boot correctly on your computer with the disk drives as they are now?

Next question: does Windows still have the normal C: drive letter?

If yes to both questions, then there should be no problem with backing up your 2 drives and being able to restore these if needed in the future.  The key to such situations is to ensure that you are able to easily identify which drive is what?  I always rename the volumes / partitions on all my drives to do this, plus I also normally include an empty text file with the name / purpose of the drive or partition used for the file name, so that there will be no doubt I am picking the right drive for any restore actions.

Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

I  have named the two hard disks "Operating System" and "Programs" but i am noticing

also when i want to make the Backup that the two Hard disks are positioned wrong.

I mean instead to see on the top the C drive and next the B drive, i see on the top the B drive and

next the C drive. How can i do to see frist the C drive and next the B drive?

Thanks

Enzo

Enzo, where are you looking at the drives?  Is this in Disk Management or looking from within the ATI GUI?

Personally, I would not worry about how the drives are presented if all is working correctly.

I suspect that when you reformatted and reloaded Windows, that Windows choose the drive to install on as the largest one rather than where you may have had Windows loaded previously.

Steve,

from The Acronis. how you can see from the picture i have attached.

How you can see the first Hard Disk is the F: and not the C: one

Enzo, the image simply shows the order that the disk drives are connected internally in your computer, so to change this, you would need to change the SATA cables, but again, I would say that if all is working correctly to leave it as it is.

Steve,

but when i restore the backup, i get the C stuff into the B drive and the B stuff into the C drive,

so when the PC reboots after the restore operation, i get like the Operating system is missed.

Enzo, when you create your backup, you should have a separate backup for each different drive, then when you need to recover, you pick both the backup file and the correct target drive to restore to.

Steve Apologise what you mean?

I have Always done an unique backup selecting both the Hard drives.
Will you please tell me maybe step by step how to do?

Thanks in advance.

Enzo

Enzo, assuming that you are making your backups using the Windows ATI GUI application, then it just means not selecting 'Entire PC' as the Source for the backups, but instead clicking on the Source panel and then choosing Disks & Partitions, followed by selecting each different drive separately, using two different backup tasks, one per drive.

So one backup task for Drive C: OS, and a second backup task for Drive F: Programs.

Apologise Steve what to choose here?

Before i have Always choosed the top one "Disk and Partition Backup"

than i get the photo i've posted before

Enzo, looking at your image you are not using the Windows application, but are using the Acronis Rescue media application.

You would need to click on the top option, then select just one of your two disk drives at a time to be backed up to make separate backup images in this way.

Steve, you mean i need to make two different backups?

First the C drive and then the F drive?

And what about when i need to restore?

I need first to restore the C drive and then the F drive or i can choose both in only one restore?

Thanks

Enzo, yes but mainly to make the handling of any restore simpler, so that you can select the correct target drive based on which backup you are recovering.

You would need to make two backups, and do two restores, one for each drive.
