Have disabled scheduled backups but ATI seems to revert to increnental ones..

Thread needs solution

Hi folks,

Running ATI 2018 on windows 7 32 bit.

I am only interested in doing full backups and have gone into options and selected full as the scheme and also have selected Do Not Schedule. Then I click ok to save the scheme.

But it seems that somehow ATI is reverting to doing incremental backups sometimes and I have to delete them from my drive. Am I going about this the right way to save the full backup only scheme and not to schedule?

Another thing I have noticed is when I am doing something like installing office on windows 10 on a different partition on my computer (as its dual boot) that I get spurious messages about files being ignored or something other to that effect, and that ATI will terminate the process in 10 mins. Not at all what I want, I wonder what is going on here, as I certainly want windows to continue what its doing and not have ATI terminate the process.

Thanks for any help especially about the first point regarding full backups and not to schedule.

Many thanks,

Joe

For changed backup settings from the default which is scheduled incremental you must save the settings as default and also run the task after you do so.  Once the task has run the new default settings should stick.

Not sure what to make of the messages you get but would suspect possibly the Active Protection might be causing the issue.  Recommend opening a support ticket with Acronis on that one.

Thanks for reply.

I have three partitions on my computer that I back up, two of windows 10 and one of windows 7.

I have just backed up one of those partitions and prior to that I saved the settings to make only full backups and NOT to schedule.

Done the backup and ATI has reverted to incremental backups and to schedule again on 22 of October.

I also have the added problem that Acronis seems to backup a previous .Tib file which was made with ATI 2010, keeps the name and details the same only just overwrites with a new Tib file, which is confusing because that original backup might have been of a different partition.

Is there a way of making sure that ATI wont delete any backups as I want to be in full control of that?

Honestly thinking of going back to ATI 2010, which was rock solid and worked fine in windows 7, but not windows 10.

Many thanks though for taking the time to reply.

Joe, I have never had any problems such as you have described here which suggests (to me) that perhaps there is a problem with your ATI 2018 installation.

Did you do a clean install of ATI 2018 or was this installed over the top of an older version such as your ATI 2010?

If the latter, then I would recommend making a clean start over by fully uninstalling all Acronis software and reinstalling again so that you have a clean Database to work with and new task configuration files.

Ditto Steve on this.  Sounds like database corruption to me, best to start over with a clean install.

Ok thanks a lot guys, as I don't think it was a clean install of ATI 18, I have again set ATI to full backup only and its showing not to schedule as well. So a clean install if it starts reverting back again.

Thanks once again for your excellent help.

Ok folks, I have totally reinstalled ATI on both OS, and even used Revo Uninstaller to remove all traces in the registry of each OS before I reinstalled again.

Ok just in case I am missing something here, I find that the default method of backup when ATI is first installed is the incremental method. I then selected one of my 3 partitions that I wanted to backup, went into options in ATI created a customer scheme called Full backup, then selected Not to schedule then clicked ok.I also selected full as the Backup method in there before saving the settings.

So at the bottom of main ATI gui it says Next backup Not scheduled and in options Backup Method is showing as full.

So I take it I have no more settings to select, if everything is working ok, I shouldn't see ATI take off on its own to do an incremental backup, and all backups should be full?

Just in case something does go amiss again I have opened a ticket with Acronis support.

Thank you very much guys for the patience you have shown me, I take it there is not any more settings to tinker with.

Update.

I have just backed up my main C drive, and on completion once again at bottom of ATI gui it says next backup on 23 October and going into options shows that incremental backup is selected once again and its a weekly schedule.

I have once again reset it to full and Not schedule, is it possible that a backup must be done first before the backup method can be selected?

Well that mustn't be the case either, as I have done another backup, with once again getting a schedule message for 23 October and in options an incremental backup.

:)

Joe, I have just created a new small backup (Files & Folders) configured to do only Full backups without being scheduled and that is exactly what I got with no changes to the backup scheme or scheduling details.

Ah Thanks Steve once again, will just see how ATI goes for me, does spoil it a bit when I can't get it to do what I think its supposed to, ATI 2010 was great in every way for me.

Probably early enough days yet as regards ATI 2018 is concerned, I would imagine a few updated versions will be released in due course.

I do have a seven and a half year old computer and windows 7 and 10  are both 32 bit, so maybe something to do with it, though computer is quad core and is fast enough in all other respects, I have a Samsung EVO 500 gb drive for all the OS as well.

Will keep ATI 18 even if it doesn't work out for me, as no doubt will be getting a new computer sooner or later.

Thanks a lot Steve for all the helpful advice.
