Help does not work - opens empty browser window

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

Just upgraded to ATI 2018 from 2017, and have it on two Win10 machines.  When I try using the Help and Support option to "Open Help", all that happens is that Edge opens up with a blank page.  The file it's trying to open is at

file:///C:/Users/{MyName}/AppData/Local/Temp/Acr29A1.tmp.html

To be honest it's not a critical problem.  I can use the online documentation instead, but it would be good to have it working as it should.

Does anyone else experience this, and what can I do to put it right?

Martin, it seems that your ATI 2018 install did not go fully successfully given the file that Help is trying to open.

On my computer, Help opens file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Acronis/TrueImageHome/Help/help/en/index.html#35899.html

You may need to try doing a Repair install, but if that doesn't work, then a Clean install may be needed.  If so, open the Settings page and use the new option to Backup your settings first.

Thanks, Steve.  I have tried a repair install but still get the same problem.  I think it could be that the Help pages are not compatible with Edge.

If I open the file at file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Acronis/TrueImageHome/Help/help/en/index.html#35899.html in any browser other than Edge, it works OK.  In Edge, no luck.

My guess is that the %temp% file I mentioned is meant to just redirect to the main help page, but again, is failing because Edge doesn't like it.

Wonder whether I can change the default browser so that ATI doesn't try to open Edge.

Yep - that was it.  I changed the default browser to Chrome, and now the Help pages open up OK.

I'll report the issue to Acronis.

Thanks for the feedback Martin, have to admit that I do not use Edge - my own default browser is Chrome.
