Help with restore please

Thread needs solution

I have to do a restore for the very first time in the four years I've had Acronis.  I'm very confused by the options and the confusing way they label things.

In the "Select Items to recover" it shows four things:

  1. NTFS Gateway C:
  2. MBR
  3. NTFS PQSERVICE
  4. NTFS System reserved

But on the LHS it shows

  1. Partition 1-1
  2. Partition 1-2
  3. Partition C
  4. MBR of Disk 1

Can someone please explain the mapping?  Does 1-2 map to Gateway C?  Obviously, MBR is not a partition, so is PQSERVICE 1-2?

I was quite surprised to not find an option of something like "Click here to make your C: drive exactly the way it was when you did your backup."

I consider myself a pretty sophisticated end-user and I find this very confusing, so please, can someone walk me through this?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, when doing this type of restore / recovery, you should be selecting the top-most Disk 1 option and doing a full disk recovery which will put back everything on that drive as it was when it was backed up.

The PQSERVICE partition is a manufacturer recovery partition that was created using Norton Ghost which used that name.  This partition would allow you to recover the computer back to its original factory status, with the original Windows OS it came with.  I would advice against trying to omit this partition as doing so will require you to select the other partitions individually and then chose where to recover them to, what size to make them etc.

If you later want to remove the PQSERVICE recovery partition, you can use any partition manager tool such as MiniTool Partition Wizard to do this and allocate the freed 13GB space to your main C: OS partition.
