How do I move UEFI partition after conversion of OS to GPT drive

Thread needs solution

Hello forum members

I recently successfully converted my old legacy system with MBR SSD to a new motherboard with NVMe GPT partitioned.

  • I cloned the old drive to the new one which ended up being an MBR too initially (obviously).
  • I then ran Windows mbr2gpt command over the new drive and it all worked fine.
  • Unhooked the old drive so there is no confusion.
  • Couple of tweaks on the bios to ensure the motherboard boots in UEFI and it all booted up like a charm.

Now I have a NVMe with 3 partitions in the following order:

  1. The windows recovery,
  2. C drive
  3. UEFI.

Plus a huge unallocated volume at the end.

I now have limited space on the C drive for expansion (I want to also tack on a D drive next to it)

Can I move the UEFI to be the second partition leaving C at the end to expand.

If so I would appreciate suggestions how to achieve this.

Thanks guys.

Jeffrey, the normal order for the EFI System partition is before the main C: OS partition on the disk, so would suggest checking again that the order you have listed is correct?

Download a copy of the free MiniTool Partition Wizard software and check the layout of the disk in that tool.  You can also use the same tool to move partitions and change sizes etc.

Note: Please ensure you have make a full disk backup before making any changes!

The layout of my own OS disk shown in MPT is as below:
