How to exclude complete folders from backup? (No imput possible)

Thread needs solution

Hi together,

in one of my posts I describe, that ATI is not able to create file-backups without stopping due to "blocked files by third party apps".

Now, after considering, I decided to exclude the "C:\Users\Default\AppData" completely.

But when I go to the exclusions and enter this pass, it will not be accepted, ATI doesn't enter it.

How can I add exclusions for complete folders, same as they are entered as default settings?
I'd like to add "C:\Users\Default\AppData" in the list.

Please let me know how...!

Manfred, if you are making a Files & Folders backup from the ATI GUI, then you exclude complete folders on the Source selection panel, not from the Exclusions page.

It doesn't make sense to the application if you Include a folder in the Source then try to Exclude the same folder in the Exclusions!  Do not include the folder in the Source then no Exclusion is needed.

Hi Steve;

hmmm… I must say, your answer maked definitely sense... ^^
I'll follow it.

But:
Is the behaviour of ATI ok., that it stoppes the backup, if some of the files to be backupped are "blocked"?
How does PC-Backup (Imaging) arrange this in running Systems?

Manfred, the behaviour of ATI depends on what you mean by files being 'blocked'?

ATI uses the Microsoft VSS snapshot service to capture copies of 'locked' files, such as the OS main executable programs, DLL's, Registry files etc.

If another application is preventing ATI from access one or more files, i.e. an antivirus program might do this if the files are considered to be malware, then the choice is either to exclude the files or hosting folder, or else to whitelist ATI in the application doing the blocking.

See the following documents:

Hi Steve,

I do not have any AV Software, excepting built-in WIN-Defender.

The Question remains...

Manfred, sorry but would need more information to help further.  Please download / use the MVP Log Viewer tool (link below) to access the backup logs for this issue, plus perhaps try uploading an Acronis System Report if the size of the zip file comes less than the 2MB size limit.

I converted it also into a .docx. Is this ok.for you? (.txt has 1.9 MB ;)

Do I have to do something with MVP Log Viewer?

Please let me know.

Manfred, the MVP Log Viewer is a standalone program that does not need to be installed, just run it then look at the logs information shown.

Hi Steve,

please see my other post withe the "new installation of build 1809", I'll try the same task once more now and will provide a report if the problem still appears.

Manfred, thanks for the update.
