How to explore the contents of a .TIB file

Thread needs solution

Hi Everyone,

I recently installed a 30-day trial version of Acronis True Image 2018, and made a disk image. The process ran without errors, and created a 226 gigabyte .tib file.

But when I tried to open the .tib file in internet explorer, nothing happens -- I get no errors, but nothing opens either.

Before buying the full license and trusting TrueImage to bail me out in case of a disk crash, I need to be absolutely sure that the disk image (a) is usable, and (b) contains everything on my hard drive.

How do I go about doing so, please?  Thank you very much in advance.

James

James, welcome to these User Forums.

If your ATI 2018 has been installed correctly (using an Administrator account), then it should have setup Windows Shell Integration which would allow you to explore any .TIB files by simply double-clicking on the file(s) in Windows Explorer.

You should also see options for Acronis True Image when you right-click on a .TIB file in Explorer where the options are to Mount (only available for Disk & Partitions image files) or to Validate.

If you are not seeing these indications of shell integration then I would suggest doing a Repair install of ATI 2018 which is achieved by reinstalling the software over the top of what is already there.  Do this from an Administrator account.

Hi Steve,

It worked!  (I had to first clean up my registry, because my previously unsuccessful install/uninstall cycles had left behind a lot of crud in the registry.  But once I did that and reinstalled ATI, it worked exactly as you described.)

Thank you very much. I greatly appreciate your advice!

Jay, glad to have been able to help, thanks for the feedback.

Glad to to see this resolution.  But what application is used to explore a *.tib file when it is double clicked on?

When I double click on a *.tib file the result is simply to load TrueImage 2018 which is not what I want.  I want to explore the *.tib file as in file explorer under Windows 10.  I note that the tib suffix is associated with TrueImage.

In explorer select the *.tib file, right click and one of the options is to mount the drive, validate which take you into ATI 2018. To open the file you should merely need to select and double click. If this is not happening it suggest the files association is broken. Try a repair installation of ATI 2018 - if you do not have a copy of the installation file to hand you can download it from your Acronis Account - make sure it is the full version not the web version. Run the installation file (using run as administrator) and when prompted select repair rather than uninstall.

Please keep us up to date on your progress.

Hello. I have the same issue. I have quite a few .tib files and the following happens with all of them. When I open a .tib file through explorer, it looks like it is opening..gets through to 'user', I select myself, then it says 'folder is empty'. Every time. Incremental or Full.

I cannot open the file through Acronis. When I hit the 'recovery' button the external drive letter appears as 'D'. I click 'D' assuming it will show me a list of files, instead it says 'cannot find version 1. You may have moved or deleted it. Please click browse and specify its location, or ignore this message'. 1. If I knew what I was looking for I could hit browse and find out, but unfortunately I have no idea what I am looking for. 2. The options are 'retry/cancel/browse'. There is no 'ignore' button.

Next, I did a 'repair' on the software 'as administrator'. No difference.

Reading through the forums, I thought that I may have to 'mount' the file when in explorer. I did this but it looks wrong and I didn't have the courage to proceed.

Issue from Guy being dealt with in topic: Cannot Open .tib files

I'm using ATI 2018 installed and activated under windows 8 pro and I would love to know how to view the description in windows that I typed when I made the *.tib file image in Linux / dos off the boot DVD.  I realize there may be no way to do that except by returning to that same environment where the image was made where it appears under the comment column but it would be so much more convenient to do this under windows that same way I did with Symantec Ghost.

Sorry Paul but as far as I understand, comments are only visible from within the Acronis application (in Windows or via boot media).  I never use the comments myself so not something I have played with other than doing some very brief testing!

Hello,

Does anyone know if it's possible to view and/or access the image (.tib) file contents? I created an image using Acronis Snap Deploy 6 software and I don't see an option in the menu where I can view the contents of my image.

Thanks,

Thuyen

Dear Thuyen N,
As Acronis Snap Deploy 6 is basically software for image deployment, there is currently no option to mount the image locally. But we have requested it to the product's manager.
