[INFORMATIONAL] Acronis True Image job fails with "too few memory" / "zu wenig Arbeitsspeicher"

Thread needs solution

Hello community,

if you are using Malwarebytes 3.x / 2.x you might suffer an issue that went viral yesterday and also affected some of my machines.

Who is affected:

Users using Malwarebytes 3.x in premium mode (evaluation phase or subscription users)
MBAM 2.x may be affected, too. Effective from Saturday 27th / Sunday 28th January.

Cause:

Error in update / pattern

Issues:

The MBAM process consumes large amount of CPU and nearly all RAM.

This causes ATIH to cancel backups (and other things), with the above message.

How to solve:

visit www.malwarebytes.com and obtain the latest Malwarebytes from the website. By Sunday the application updater did not recognize the fixed release. You can safely install the lastest version over the existing mbam version. This requires a reboot.

Normally I would not post this in Acronis forum, as this is caused by a 3rd party application, not supported or endorsed by Acronis, but as it has a noticeable side effect on Acronis and your scheduled / manual backups I though it would be appropriate to report here.

Here is the official statement:

personal advice:

If you still use MBAM 2.x please consider to upgrade to 3.x. You may end the evaluation period instantly on the settings > account tab. MBAM has seen some few but major issues in the past 2 years, still I would personally recommend the free version as a good companion to ATIH 2018 Active Protection and Windows 10 Defender, as it does fight Malware and Spyware / Adware (on demand) very successfully.

So far there have only been side effects together with MBAM / Defender and Active Protection or other applications, and if so, they got addressed very quickly.
