Installation hiccup on build 10640

Thread needs solution

I opened the ATI UI and ran the update. The download went fine. I then clicked the button to update. I don't remember a progress bar but I did see the Explorer restart. But instead of the button to start the application, all I saw was the Update button still there. I also had a new desktop icon for the app. I pressed the Update button and that windows was hung. Using the desktop icon I opened the app and it was showing build 10640. I clicked the X to close the Update window and it was reported as not responding.

I normally keep the Managed Machine Service Mini and Nonstop Backup Service disabled and I forgot to enable them before running the update. Regardless, everything looked OK and those services ended up getting set to Automatic. Just to be on the safe side, I downloaded the installation file and ran a Repair. Everything looks good and I think all is OK now.

On my wife's Windows 7 machine I enabled the services before the update and it went smoothly.

Strange!  I have gotten into the habit of exiting the application prior to running the download and update functions.  When all is finished I shutdown Windows then start the computer back up.  Since following these procedures I have not had a single problem, weird occurrence, hang, nothing but good results.
