Issue restoring Acronis True image file created from a smaller SSD to larger SSD
Hi,
In my my system, I have one SSD drive for my OS, and logical internal drives for data that are all SATA. I just purchased and installed a replacement SSD drive that is twice the capacity. Old drive: 250GB. New drive: 500GB.
I restored the 500GB drive with the image I created from the 250GB drive. After completing the image restore on the larger drive, the computer started fine and that's not an issue. The issue is that it restored the exact same partition values so it's only using the half the disk. In Windows Disk management, the option to expand the partition is disabled.
I was of the understanding from what I read, that when Acronis restores an image to a larger disc than the original, any partitions are proportionally kept, while using the entire disc. Unfortunately, that's not what happened for me.
If anyone has the proper steps for me to remedy this, I would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance!
Richard

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and for apparently responding so quickly. I'm just now seeing your post for the first time (5 days later). Please forgive me. I didn't realize anyone responded, because I thought I had set my forum account to alert me by email if someone replied. Either I missed the email, or I hadn't properly set up the alert system.
Anyway, aside from using Windows Disk Management, I also tried to solve the problem with EaseUS Partition Master 12 with no success. I'll definitely look into Minitool Partition. It sounds like it just might be the solution.
Thank you again,
Richard

Richard - thanks for the PM confirming Minitool did the trick! It's probably the best free tool out there for this. I liked it so much, I bought the full one so that I can build bootable recovery media with it, but the free version is probably good enough for most people - especially for just this type of task.
