Linux or WinRE Rescue Media advantage?

Thread needs solution

I think I've ask this before but not seen a clear answer. Is there any clear advantage to using one version or the other for backup and/or recovery, assuming of course that either would boot OK on your system?

Bruno, there are obvious differences between the two different versions of Rescue media which are down to the OS used to boot (Linux versus Windows PE/RE), where Linux is probably going to boot faster on most computers than the Windows version.

There are differences also in how hardware is supported plus whether RAID support is available or not.

The key difference / advantage of Windows PE/RE is the ability to work from a Command Prompt windows and use key Windows commands such as CHKDSK, DISKPART, BCDEDIT etc which cannot be done from the Linux media.

The WinRE version of the media may also include specific device drivers from the computer where it is built.

For myself, I have been using the MVP Custom WinPE version of the Rescue Media with the added benefits of having a web browser, file manager and other utilities, which make it a more flexible and useful tool to keep in my pocket.

I cast my vote with Steve...the MVP Custom WinPE version works great on my UEFI configured laptop.  The MVP version also supports Bitlocker, but I personally haven't used it.

OK, so I understand that the WinPE/WinRE version provides more hardware/software support. Having the Windows commands available as Steve points out is a nice plus. But is there any difference with respect to the True Image backup itself?

Do you guys make a new MVP version of the Rescue Media with each new build of ATI?

There is no difference in the backup between the Linux version and the WinPE/WinRE version.

I do make a new MVP version with each new build of ATI...more for test purposes than need.  We recommend the MVP version and need to be sure it works with each build released.
