Migration old computer to new one

Thread needs solution

Hi

I bought a new Computer. My system ist Windows 10. I made a backup (disk) of my old Laptop and tried to restore it on the new. All worked fine, but the new one has now the same Device ID and the HP identication program intentify my new one (HP Spectre) as my old one (HP Elitebook).

Is it possible to migrate the System without moving the Device ID (Settings - About)?

Thanks!

Christof, welcome to these User Forums.

When you make a Disk & Partitions backup image of your computer (old laptop) you are capturing everything on the source disk, all the Windows OS settings and registry data, so this will include any application information such as the HP device details.

When you restore that backup to a new computer, then everything from the old computer is restored to the new one.

It is not possible to exclude the HP specific identification data - you would need to discover exactly where that data is being stored and either correct or remove it, or uninstall any HP applications dealing with the data and then try re-installing them again to let them find the correct device identity.
