Need to restore individual files from a Version Chain Back Up

Thread needs solution

Hi All - I F'd up my Thunderbird Email account and need to restore JUST THAT FOLDER.  Was trying to move it off C (SSD) to free up space.  Somehow I messed it up.  I have a full BU from 11-22 and versions going up to 12-4 (the date I want to pull the T-Bird folder from and replace it onto C and start over.)

When I try to recover that file (12-4) I can only see C and no folders. Even though the help files show me that I should have access to the whole drive in individual folders.  Is this because I'm using Version Chain BU's?

When I try to use Explorer I can see the files but I cannot access them.  /Users/Me/AppData/ - Then I see 0 Files!?

Do I need to restore the Full BU first and THEN the latest version? The data is on a DROBO NAS device and it is kinda slow to read things because it has to happen over the LAN.

I've searched 'restore Version Chain files' but I'm not finding much help.  What is the proper procedure to get to that data.  I'd really just like to Copy / Paste from the NAS to my SSD.  Is that possible?

Using ATI 2018

Struggling!! Thanks for any help -

Mike, when looking at your backup file contents via Explorer, have you changed the view options to show hidden / system files?

Steve - Thanks for the reply.  I do show all files.

I finally got the recover screen to show the directory tree - don't know why it wouldn't before.  My issue is... (one of em anyway) is that It shows zero files in thunderbird/ profiles / mail / zero files.

I thought it was just when I looked at the TIB file of the Differential BU but it also shows zero in ATI's screen of the tree.  I'm stumped.

If ANY file would be modified and included in a differential BU I would think EMail would show - it changes several times per day.

In short - I just want to overwrite my Mail folder from 12-4 onto the current T-Bird folder - But I can't seem to find it in the Diff BU - Is it in the Full?  Do I restore Full first THEN the Differential from a more recent date?

Thanks again

Mike, the display of files on remove network locations can take a little while to populate in the ATI Recovery page but assuming that you are looking at the correct location, the Thunderbird folders & files should be present.

From my own computer, Thunderbird stores files in two different paths in the C:\Users\Me\AppData\ path.  One location is in AppData\Local\Thunderbird but on my computer this just has a 'updates' folder.  The key location is in AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird where the profile.ini file is stored and which then points to where the files for any profiles are stored if not in the default location in that folder.

When restoring you should always start with the latest incremental or differential file.  With differential files, each file will contain the changes since the Full backup was created for that version chain.  The latest file will cause all the files from the version chain to be recovered.

Hi steve

I took a shot and got it to work - I just lost 1 day of emails.  No Big deal.

My goal is to move my T-Bird (and FireFox /Chrome) OFF my SSD to save room.  I'm 'in the red'. I thought I did it right but apparently did not.  Now it shows my profiles located on C again.  I'll do more and better homework before the next attempt - which has to be soon coz I'm extremely low on space!

Thanks for your help and for ALL the help you give the forum members - you really ARE a legend!

Mike, please see webpage: Moving your profile folder - which is what I followed when I moved my own Thunderbird profile data to my E: drive.  Glad to hear you got your files back again!
