Not able to open the UI whilst BU in progress...
Hi Guys 'n' gals,
As usual my weekly back-up proceeded with no problems.
(One full, then 2 Incrementals.)
But, with the old/er (2016), version of ATI, I was able to right click the Task Bar icon with the BU in progress
& the UI would open, albeit a tad slowly.
Now, with v2018, when the BU is running, neither the ATI or the Active Protection UI's will open.
&, just to note, the 2018 UI is still rather slow to load.....not too bad but noticeable.
Any ideas on why this is so?
Ta muchly.
Regards, Rajah.
ps. Why does this version use/call the Windows VSSVC.exe service, as seen in the Task Manager?
It really slows the process down....AFAICS.
Any way to inhibit it?

In reply to Rajah, I haven't seen any… by truwrikodrorow…

Hi Steve,
Thank you for the quick reply & info.
I have no idea as to why neither UI's would open during the BU process.
Point to note...
I have my system set up to give a Window's "ding" sound when any program opens etc.
There was no "ding" when I clicked on the Task Bar to open the programs.
Just complete silence.
Another strange one for the books?
Anyway, both programs are working as per "normal" now, but I am not doing a BU.
Will see how it goes next week.
Stay tuned for the next episode of "ACRONIS & THE DEADLY SILENCE." :)
Ta muchly.
Regs, Rajah..
ps. I D/L'd that VSS Doctor Tool but when I ran it, Windows immediately crashed
with it's great big blue screen message...
"Windows shut down to protect your computer".....type of message.
Really!?
Un-installed the beastie, just in case it decided to do it again.

Rajah, the VSS Doctor is a standalone program so does not need to be installed? There are 2 versions depending on the version of .NET that you have installed, i.e. 3.5 or 4.5 where the latter is found on Windows 8 and later. Just ran the 4.5 version on my Windows 10 box and all was fine here and the tool version is unchanged over the last 6 months or longer.

Hi Steve,
Sorry. I should have put "deleted" as it did not even get to run.
As soon as I clicked "Run", Windows crashed with it's blue screen & the above message.
I did D/L the version for my WIN 7 32 bit OS, & .NET version...eg; v3.5.
Thanks again.
