Putting a Backup of Win10 on a partitioned HDD That has MacOS and Linux partitions.

Thread needs solution

Can I backup W10 to a USB-HD and restore it to a HD that already has MacOS hfs+ AND Linux ext4 partitions?  I want to multi-boot MacOS, Linux and Win10.  I think MacOS has to be on the HDD first.

Thank you

Shawn, welcome to these User Forums.

Sorry but this is something that I have never attempted when involving Linux and Mac OS along with Windows in a triple-boot scenario.

The best suggestion I can make would be to try doing a Windows 10 install to this drive using a NTFS partition of the size of your Win 10 backup source drive, and see if you can get that working in your triple-boot scenario.  If you can, then trying to restore your Win 10 backup image to that working Win 10 partition might be an easier prospect to attempt.

I would suspect that you are going to need to use such as Grub2 as the boot manager in this environment, and any Windows install will automatically wipe out any current boot manager / stamp all over the MBR for the drive and install its own as if nothing else exists!

If you are able to have separate physical drives in this computer, life would be much easier!
