Questions about Try And Decide

Thread needs solution

Hello.

Here are my concerns: I use only the bootable cd of Acronis, to save and restore. By choice, and because Acronis under Windows has become a gas plant.

But I think the Try And Decide option seems interesting.

It is stated in the manual that Try And Decide is incompatible with defragmentation software, and disk error checking utilities.

For example, is HD Tune concerned? Because I use this software a lot.

Thank you.

Oh yes, can this option prevent the Ransomware attack?

Thank you

Nathanael, the ATI 2018 User Guide section on Try & Decide states:

Please be aware that Try&Decide cannot track changes in disk partitions, so you will be unable to use the Try mode for virtual operations with partitions such as resizing partitions or changing their layout. In addition, you must not use the Try&Decide and disk defragmentation or disk error checking utilities at the same time, because this can irreparably corrupt the file system, as well as make the system disk unbootable.

The above looks to be very clear about the risks of using disk defragmentation or disk error checking utilities while Try & Decide is active as these are essentially very low level disk / sector operations.

Try&Decide may help prevent some types of Ransomware if all the files involved are included in the changes captured for the partition being protected and can be reverted back to their previous state.  ATI 2018 included ransomware protection in the form of the Acronis Active Protection feature that is integrated in the application, plus your security software should also help provided these are being maintained at the latest levels.

Obviously, to use Try&Decide the ATI 2018 application has to be installed in Windows.
