Recover Files from cloud drive when main acronis loaded computer has crashed

Thread needs solution

The problem is pretty straight forward, however Acronis have made even this simple task apparently impossible.

I have backed up files to my local cloud drive, on a regular daily basis, however the main computer with Acronis on it has developed a fault.

I need files from the cloud drive backup for work, however there appears to be no way of opening these files.

I loaded a trial version of Acronis on my laptopC but it wants me to deregister my version of acronis on the broken PC, then reregister for the laptop. Pretty stupid way of going about things, given that all I want are a few files from the backup.

Is there no Acronis tool to do this, or does it mean some convoluted process to recover those files ? If so I will be looking for better backup software in the future.

Log into Acronis cloud and download from there.

There is no local cloud option. It's either in the Acronis Cloud or a local device (NAS, USB, another internal, etc.) But they are not the same.

If it is local and not cloud, you can use rescue media to recover or install the software in a different of and run from Windows.

Sign in to your Acronis Account then in the Products page, look for your product with the Cloud subscription where you should see a [Dashboard] button - click on this to go to your Cloud dashboard page and then click on Backups in the left column to get access to your backup data.

Thanks for the replies. Firstly any NAS drive that can be accessed over the internet is a cloud based drive, just because the storage medium is local to me does not mean it is not cloud based. Maybe it is just your understanding that the cloud has to be from a major company.

I did try dashboard, but it goes into an endless loop of trying to log me in, fails then tries again. I can only assume it is looking for an acronis based cloud device ? no idea really.

Pretty stupid system that doesnt have a way of retrieving files to a different computer, once your main computer has crashed. Even a small program that allows this would be a major part of any backup system and something other backup software solutions have. I do like Acronis but this is pretty dumb from such a company.

Michael, there are some terminology issues here.  Acronis provides a Cloud storage service on subscription, hence when you referred to your local NAS backups as being in the cloud, it was easy to assume you meant the Acronis Cloud.

Now that you have confirmed that your backups are actually on your NAS drive, then we can try to offer some different suggestions to you.

If you only have the one computer that has Acronis True Image installed / have only one license to use ATI on one computer, then you either need to temporarily transfer your license to a second computer until the fault with the first one is resolved, or else you will need to create and use the Acronis Rescue Media in order to access files stored in your ATI backup files on the NAS.

See the following documents

KB 59878: Acronis True Image 2018: "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number" which deals with how to move your activation to a different computer.

Most of the rescue media has very limited support for wireless adapters so you should be using a wired network connection.

See the following KB documents that may be of help here:

Finally, I would recommend reviewing the ATI 2018 User Guide which has a wealth of information on recovery topics.
