Recover files fails.

Hi, I have an issue where recover files fails. As a test I backup one small folder below my documents folder. Then I tried to recover it to a new catalog on the same computer immediately. It fails "Failed to recover file or folder". Files are created but have zero bytes.

This is windows 10, acronis 2018 build 15470 and I backup to an external USB disk. I can open the .tib file (double-click) and find the file, copy it out manually with content.

Is there any known solution to this?

At the moment I cannot trust this software and have to use manual slow copying to be sure to reach all files.

terje,

I'm not sure what "recover to a new catalog on the same computer" means.  Could you provide more information on the exact folder you're attempting to recover and the exact location on your computer you're attempting to restore to?

Right now, without that info, it's a bit hard to be sure what's happening.  However, as a guess, it sounds like the recovery is attempting to write to an existing folder in your my documents that might be in use or have files in use and is being prevented as such.  I only say that because is seems like you're trying to recover directly to an existing folder, but when you used file explorer and copy/pasted from it where it worked, you restored to a different location on an USB instead?

FYI, there are hard links in Windows for my documents that are not actually accessible.  They are "junctions" in more current versions of Windows based upon old methodology in XP and early Windows 7.  Is it possible you're trying to restore to the junction (which is not accessible in Windows) vs the actual Documents folder?  Regardless, make sure you have the correct "Documents" location "which is My Documents, but not apparent always) and make sure that the folder within it is not locked or in use as some running applications create folders there automatically and prevent files that they are using from being updated while the application is running.

Best practice is to restore to a new / different location and then copy into the final location when you need to overwrite or merge data from a backup so that you can avoid permission issues, or identify them if they exist.
