Recovering OLD backups (some going back to 2009)

Thread needs solution

I'm currently using ATI 2018 but over the years have used many versions

  • ATI 2016
  • ATI 2014
  • ATI 2013
  • ATI 2010
  • ATI 2009

I have some annual backups going back to 2009 I now want to recover. I've learned ATI 2018 isn't backward compatible with older versions. OK so how do I know which version of ATI is needed to recover a backup? Can I determine which version of ATI was used to create the backup? Is that information available somewhere?

As ATI isn't backward compatible couldn't there a least be a better error message stating which historical version of ATI was used to create the backup file instead of just getting general error messages??

Acronis published KB 1689: Backup archive compatibility across different product versions - which documents what versions of ATI they have tested with archives created by previous older versions.

ATI 2018 has been tested with archives going back to TI 11.0 per the above document.

backups of Windows computers created with:
Acronis True Image 2017, Acronis True Image Subscription
Acronis True Image 2016, Acronis True Image Cloud (Release 2016)

The other approach would be to sign in to your Acronis account web page and download the ISO files for the rescue media of the older versions you have, and create a boot CD to use for the purpose of recovering the archives created by that older version.
