Recovery: Bootable media (Linux) doesn't see DVD volumes

Background:

  • Backed up WIN 10 based hard drive using Bootable media (Linux) onto 6 DVDs, writing successive volume numbers on each of the DVDs. NOTE: our customer requires backups to DVDs.
  • Formatted a hard disk with MBR, disk same size as original WIN 10 disk.

When attempting to recover I inserted last DVD, selected "Recovery", and clicked on "Disk Recovery", which opened screen "Recovery Wizard". Clicked on Browse which opened the “Browse for Location” screen. The left panel displayed:

My Computer

  • Acronis Cloud
  • CD Drive (C:)
  • Computers Near Me
  • My FTP connections
  • My NAS connections

The formatted hard disk doesn’t show up in the list and the CD drive is listed as (C:). If I double click on CD Drive (C:) the .tib file does not show up.

NOTE: As an experiment I backed up the WIN 10 disk to an external USB drive. In this case when I ran Disk Recovery the external and the internal drive to be restored showed up correctly under “My Computer” and the recovery worked correctly.

So why isn’t the hard drive listed and why doesn’t the .tib file show up on the DVD?

Welcome to these User Forums.

Sorry but I have never tried doing as you describe using DVD's to backup to then attempt recovery from.

I found KB 3642: Restoring Files from an Image Spanned over Several CD or DVD Discs which was written for much older versions of ATI which may give you more information, assuming that this still holds true with the latest version?

The KB document would suggest a reason why the .tib file does not show on the DVD because it is written to that media as sector data, but I would expect ATI to know that when doing any recovery.

Beyond that, unless someone else here can shed more light on this topic, I can only suggest opening a Support Case directly with Acronis to get their input here.
