renumber backups

Thread needs solution

Had backups in seperate folders on a second hard drive -ie:1709 ,1803 etc) deleted the 1709 folder so lost #1 backup.

Can i just renumber the #63 backup to #1 and have restore find it?

Mike, I would recommend not renumbering your backup files, especially if using the Windows ATI application as this tracks the files in an internal database.

Do a Validation for your backup task and take the Ignore option for any files that were in the deleted folder.

When doing any restore from within the Windows ATI application the internal database is used to determine where the files are, what files are available etc.

If you perform a restore by using the bootable Acronis Rescue Media, the database is not used at all, so it doesn't matter where the files are stored provided you select the one you want to use for the restore and all the elements of a version chain are present, i.e. Full plus all Incremental files.

Had been doing restore's with the bootable Acronis Rescue Media and it works fine.

Yesterday tried through the Windows ATI and it wanted the #1 backup.

Thought it would be too much trouble to reset/reinstall/renumber so I'll just use the media.

Thanks

Mike, the missing version #1 is normally an indication that files have been deleted manually and is an often raised issue in the forums.  Doing a Validation should resolve this but depending on the number of files that have been deleted, will throw up as many error messages, which you would also see when running the backup task too.

Using the rescue media for restores, especially if the Windows OS is involved, is recommended practice.
