Reporting Incorrect amount of data to back up, and it might be attempting to back it up too!

Thread needs solution

As you can see below I have about 135gb to backup; this is all that is selected on my computer per below:

However once the backup starts to the Acronis cloud, this is what i see:

1.51 TB?? Where is that coming from?  This happens in 2017 and 2018

Todd, do you have more than one disk installed in this computer system, and if so, do you have any links between the source drive and any other physical drive, i.e. linking to moved libraries stored on the other drive?

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool and use this to look at what entries are shown in the backup task log for this backup.

I have many drives installed, but none of them are soft-linked or anything like that.  Unless, if the "My PHotos" and "My videos" is soft linked to another drive, then Acronis is going to follow that?!

Todd & Steve,

Here's the correct link for the latest version (2.1) of MVP Log Viewer.  This version supports ATI 2018 and has been "signed" by Acronis.

Randy, thanks for the updated Log Viewer link.

Todd,

Check the 'TI_demon' log.

Thats what I thought, it had no information in it about specific files it was backing up. Honestly, I gave up.. I deleted the backup and the cloud copy and I'm starting a new one.. See how that goes

Well that didnt' work.. it's still trying to backup 1.5Tb... need to try to find out where the symbolic link is.. I can see drive activity on another drive during the backup while the drive its supposed to backing up is idle.

Todd, can you try to isolate this by cutting down on your Source data, i.e. in your original screen shot you are selecting the C:, H: and T: drive partitions - omit two of these and see what size is shown then?

Yes let me try that now, using resource monitor in windows I found out it is somehow trying to backup my Z drive, which is a local backup copy of everything. Its a completely separate disk, but Acronis is backing it up for some reason...

Ok so the H and T partitions show the correct size when backing up just those; either by themselves or combined. C by itself is correct as well.

Selecting all 3 w/out expanding the partition list (to show recovery, etc) it wants to backup 1.5TB

Selecting all 3 and expanding the partition list to make sure the other two system partitions aren't selected, and its on its way to backing up the correct 122gb.

So the question is, how did my Z drive somehow get associated w/the recovery or system partition?

Todd, it is best to always check the Full partition list for your source data and ensure that only what you want to backup is selected.  Glad that you have identified the issue here.

Well it begs the question, how did Z: get associated w/another partition on a completely separate drive
