Searching through backed up files
I am considering upgrading to ATI 2018 from an earlier version that I abandoned a few years back that I found unsatisfactory. I am testing ATI 2018 having done a full back up and a number of daily incrementals. One thing that I cannot resolve is if there is a way of searching through numerous files with similar names to see which I am missing.
For example GenieTI allows you to search through backed up files (on external drive) by using Windows Explorer and open individual files to examine content. Is there a way of doing same with ATI 2018 because I have not been able to find out how to do it.
Thanks for any replies

In reply to Geodali, welcome to these… by truwrikodrorow…

Thank you Steve for your reply and advice. I have seen your comment in your second paragraph before in this Forum but I was unable to understand your instruction regarding "mount to a drive letter etc" and under what conditions this does not apply.
I have manged on occasions to explore the external drive where the ATI back ups are by using "explore" option and digging down through folders and the files but my ability to go back to other folders is prevented as I get the message "This folder is empty". Starting again is also frustrating as the "explore" option works only occasionally and I get "This folder is empty" message regarding the partition drive that I want to explore.
One way that I have found is that once I have gone down to a given folder instead of opting for "explore" to use the option"copy" and copy the whole folder back to my desktop or to the same external disk drive that I am using for the backup (possibly that's what you might have meant by your comment above) . This is time consuming when the folder happens to be large and requires many minutes to be copied.
Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

When you are looking at an ATI .tib file in Windows Explorer, if you right-click on the file, you should see a menu appear with the options as shown below:
As I stated above, the Mount option is only valid with Disk & Partitions type backup images as these are the only types that can be mounted to a drive letter.
The above options are only present when ATI is installed on the computer doing this.
Empty folders may be an indication that you are looking at your .tib files when they are stored on a remote resource such as a network drive or NAS - operations on remote files can take much longer than if the file is on a local or external drive connected directly to the computer.

Thank you Steve for your follow up comment.
I have opted for file backup so the Mount option suggested is not for me.
All backed up data is on an external drive attached to my desk top so the delay or the message "This folder is empty", still remain a mystery. I will have to persevere with this and see whether there is a way of achieving consistent access to the backed up data.

Check your Power options for whether you have USB selective suspend enabled as this can cause some strange issues for external drives.

Geodali, what version are you on? In the past I've run into the "This folder is empty" with backups on a local drive problem but I have not seen it for several years.

Steve, I disabled the USB selective suspend setting and did not make any difference. Still the same problem.
Patrick, I am running Version 2018, built 12510, the current option provided for those that want a 30 day try to Acronis. How often are you exploring your backups from your external drive Patrick? My first attempt is always successful but there is no way of going back to check any other folder or restart from the backup itself.

Hello Geodali,
Try to apply the workaround outlined in https://forum.acronis.com/comment/407892#comment-407892 I'd even suggest deleting the folder %userprofile%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis. To open this path, press the key combination Windows logo key + R to open the "Run" dialog, paste %userprofile%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis and press Enter. Deleting this folder is especially effective for fixing issues with browsing backups by double-clicking .TIBs in Windows Explorer.

Thank you Ekaterina,
I have given up with Acronis as it proved to be just too difficult for my current computer skills. Sorry for this all you Acronis fans. I might try again in a few years time once I become disillutioned with the alternative that I chose now.
