Searching TIB Backup File Finds Nothing

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to locate a few files in my backup, but Acronis' search is not working.

I have a full backup TIB file using Acronis True Image 2018. I've opened the Acronis app on my Windows 10 PC and selected my backup. No matter what I type into the SEARCH box, I always get the message that no file was found.

However, when I navigate through the various levels of folders in my backup, I can find the file I'm looking for with the EXACT SAME NAME as I was using in the search. And, when I'm in the folder where this file lives, the search DOES find that one file.

So, it seems that True Image does not allow me to search through subfolders from a higher level folder. You have to be IN the folder where the file exists for the search to work. Is this the way it's supposed to work? If so, it renders the search function useless. Any way to change this search behavior?

I've included two screenshots to illustrate this problem. HELP!!!!

Alan, welcome to these User Forums.

I suspect that the key issue with your search here is that you have spaces in the file name you are searching from.

Try doing a wildcard search for Carnevale*.mp4 and see if that would give you more results?

I did a quick search for *.txt on my main backup starting from C:\ and it found more than 1000 files in a long list of different folders.

Thank you, Steve Smith. Your solution worked!

I'm so used to simpler search parameters in Windows 10 that it did not occur to me to use wildcard characters in my search. I searched for *Carnevale* and found my video. It took about 3 minutes to search my entire backup (over 5TB on a Drobo NAS), but it did work.

It kept on searching even after it found the file. I finally found the "stop" button (the X to the right of my search term.) It wasn't obvious since it only appears when you hover over it. Screenshot attached for those in a similar predicament.

Alan, glad the wildcard search solved this for you.  The (x) was also shown in my earlier screen image too without needing to hover the mouse to reveal it?

Hello Alan,

I just tried to reproduce the issue and selected a file with spaces in the name  (installed is Acronis True Image 2018, build 12510) - the file was found as expected.

If you click on the arrow in the right part of the search bar, you'll see a dropdown list of locations where to search - prob if you select "in entire backup", the results will be better
