Slow partition backup by TI 2018 puts it out of contention for securing desktop system
I was replacing my boot disk with a new SSD and decided to backup my 3 partitions to a USB 3.0 external disk.
I have licenced copies of Acronis TI 2018 and started to image it onto a USB disk. The total data size is around 120 - 130 gb and when I tried to image this, it was well over 50 mins to 1 hr through and still was not complete (I recall the average time of 15-30 mins for days of TI pre-2008). As there were too many data partitons to transfer, I aborted the run and resorted to my Easeus ToDo Workstation ver 10.5. It took less than half the time and I was able to restore the files without a glitch.
Then in trying out the Clone tool, TI 2018 also could not actually replicate the disk fast enough even with user intervention to remove unnecessary folders and files.
I just updated another PC to TI 2020 and I don't think I will update this one apart from getting support. I have too many old backups in .TIB form since 2009 and am now looking to restoring those important ones so I can use the alternative backup software to ensure a faster retrieval and storage. Backup software is supposed to lessen the burden of maintaining data but this software is not really of great help.

USB 3 ports tend to be a different colour to those from USB 2, i.e. on my laptop the USB 3 ports are blue (inside). USB 3 devices demand up to 50% more power than USB 2 so should either be connected to the correct type of port or else be used with a powered USB hub to avoid causing a USB 2 port to be shutdown by the PC due to power drain issues.
