.tib windows explorer browsing takes a long time to load each folder level or file

Thread needs solution

I tried to install TrueImage 2017 [b6206] on a fresh Win8.1 x64 OS install.  I could not customize the install, so only the default installation worked.  It was primarily so that I could open a files/folders .tib backup file that was created with TI 2014 [About 30GB].  I could not mount it (not a complete disk backup, I can only browse the file contents via windows explorer, which is fine.

The problem was that it was taking 40-90 seconds to load each folder level within the backup.  dllhost.exe would get really busy during the load time (disappears when the folder finally loads).   It was extremely painful to even consider copying some folders as the load time was unacceptable.  I restarted and nothing changed.  All other windows folders were fine....the contents load almost instantly after clicking.

I wondered if it was all the excess crap Acronis 2017 installed.  So luckily I recorded the installation with Revo Uninstaller and was able to do a complete uninstall (removing every trace of Acronis True Image 2017 with all components) after reboot.

I then installed TI 2014 and I tried to load the .tib file and it was still taking 30-50s to load each folder.   I almost gave up and then I right-click on the file > True Image > recover .   Some file properties dialog box came up and it 'searched for previous version'.   From that point forward, browsing the .tib file was pretty fast loaded instantly.

BUT, I try to copy and paste folders within the 30gb tib file via windows explorer and it seems like it takes forever or causes an internal crash.  Is there a limit to how much MB of file[s] that I can copy simultaneously?

This was the closest thread I saw to my original problem:  https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-2016-forum/why-does-…

Jon, I am not aware of any specific issues with either ATI 2014 or 2017 with regards to browsing .TIB files in Windows Explorer and this taking a long time to action.

Unfortunately, ATI 2014 is well out of support so any new issues arising there will not be fixed by Acronis - the only option is to ensure that you have the final build version of this product installed, which was #6673 as far as I understand.

ATI 2017 is still in support but you should not do a direct upgrade from 2014 to 2017 without first uninstalling 2014 as documented in the ATI 2017 FAQ document:

If you already have Acronis True Image 2016 or Acronis True Image 2015 installed, there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. Start the installation file of Acronis True Image 2017 and install the product. After upgrade, create a new bootable media.

If you already have Acronis True Image 2014 or older versions, you need to delete these first and then install Acronis True Image 2017.

For ATI 2017, the current latest build is #8058 and if you still see an issue with that version, then you could open a Support Case directly with Acronis to have them investigate it further with you.

Note: If you have been getting any errors for missing versions, then I would recommend doing a Validation for the backup version chain that the .tib file is a part of.
