Trial Upload of Logs and txt files

Thread needs solution

Uploading the files works.

Downloading the files fails...I have notified Ekaterina in the MVP forum.

Just been able to download some .docx document files uploaded by a user without problem.

Still a problem with Log files with getting the 403 Forbidden error when trying to either open or download them!

Here's a test for a docx file

Attachment Size
427752-139050.docx 12.25 KB
427752-139749.txt 114 bytes

So, the docx file will download.

Attachment Size
427755-139053.docx 4.91 KB

OK...the docx file above is actually a log file with extension changed from .log to .docx.  I was able to upload and download as a docx...after download, I changed the extension back to .log and opened the file in notepad.

Looks like there are some file protection settings in the Drupal CMS software being used for the Forum to prevent access to certain file types!

Testing with file renamed as .log.txt

Attachment Size

.txt files gave same 403 Forbidden error.

Trying with .log.doc

Attachment Size
427882-139106.doc 8.14 KB

Steve, it works if you change the extension. Spoke too soon, while Word opened no document there.

Ian

Ian, you need to download the file as .doc then rename it back to .log in the case of the files I uploaded for testing.  I had another user do this in topic: issue with backup validation / how to force full backup and was able to load the log files into the MVP Log Viewer to read them.

Ekaterina alerted to this topic thread as work still needed to get all allowed file types to download / open without giving a 403 Forbidden error.  .LOG files still give this error.

Hello Everyone,

Now attachments with the extensions .txt and .log can be viewed\downloaded succesfully. BTW do you think we should add any additional file types alongside those listed in the allowed types  ?

Allowed types: jpg jpeg gif png txt doc xls pdf ppt pps odt ods odp nfo log zip dmp pptx docx xlsx tar gz gzip exe js.

Thank you!

Ekaterina, just looking at the list of 'Allowed types:' - the forum developers might want to remove any of those for executable files, i.e. .exe and js  and add a note to say that other file types should be put into a zip or other allowed archive type.

The reason for my comment is purely one of safety as given this is a public forum where anyone can register for access, any form of malware could easily be attached in the guise of an innocent looking attachment!
