TrueImage 2018 and SFTP (or FTPS)

Thread needs solution

After getting some Windows 10 dynamic disk backup errors asking me to buy some support pack I finally caved in and upgraded some of my 5+ Acronis Trueimage licenses to 2018. Haven't been able to backup to my provider for a year after they started to require SFTP/FTPS so this was overdue anyway.

And now it seems TI2018 does not support SFTP or FTPS at all (or not properly)? Plenty of topics about this.

A picture explains more than a thousand words:

acronis_fail_sftp.jpgIt does not matter if I create a new FTP connection or try to update an old one. So my findings this far are (and I have been trying most basic developer bugs I could think of so not all mentioned here):

- works just fine with Filezilla (the credentials to the right, port 22, prefixed or not, everything works)

- doesn't matter if I prefix with sftp:// or not

- tried with sftp and ftps (no matter what is supported by TI, this is what lfchosting, my provider can offer)

- tried with ports 21, 22 and some of the possible higher ones commonly used

So has anyone got this to work (and how)?

Also, I'm a bit curious the "Back up to" still says ftp://, not to mention port 21, possibly because I never have managed to get a successful connection? Possibly because that is darned bug?

Peter, this is an application design limitation in that Acronis have not implemented support for secure FTP in the product.

Unfortunately Acronis do not look likely to introduce support for SFTP in the new ATI 2019 product that is currently undergoing Beta testing by the user community.

I would recommend opening a Support Case with Acronis to register your requirement for secure FTP connectivity.

Hopefully this topic and  explanation helps someone else later on (especially buying for this reason).

Ty, will open a ticket, 3-4 years of not getting this done by Acronis sure makes you wonder why you have any licenses at all.

Hello Peter

I've added your vote to the existing feature request (internal ID for reference TI-39669). Thank you!

Even though this is an old thread, I'll add my second to the motion to provide SFTP and/or FTPS.

Or is Acronis thinking that providing optional encryption of the backup is enough?

Thank you, Cliff, noted!

Time to reopen this old thread.

Acronis True Image does not support SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol, or SSH File Transfer Protocol) as a storage option.
Support for SFTP protocol is implemented in Acronis backup solutions for businesses (end-users, service providers).

So, does this mean we will never get SFTP for the personal backup?

Either use our cloud or pay through the nose (not that I can find a price for the cheapest business version).

I do not wish to send my data to "any" storage, I want control and encryption is not control.

Since I specifically spent 50 bucks just to get SFTP some years ago, I still feel cheated. Haven't spent a buck on Acronis since.

Acronis Backup 12.5 supports SFTP; there are several different versions (for different purposes) and it is much more expensive that using ATI.

Pricing can be found on Acronis www site: https://www.acronis.com/en-au/business/backup/purchasing/

Change to your region by replacing "en-au" with yours.

Ian

Peter, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Unfortunately, improvements in the FTP support are not on the roadmap for the upcoming updates..
