Update for Steve

In my earlier post, Steve suggested I asked the local company that did the Acronis restore for me "how they did it" I've now asked and they were extremely helpful. They went through how they did the restore more or less step by step and, the general outcome was as I had been advised on here. I know I keep saying it but thanks again for all the help and patience, it's been brilliant.
