USB Ports not working after booting from recovery CD

Thread needs solution

I just upgraded to 2018 and made a recovery disc.  This disc boots fine and my mouse and keyboard work until I select the version that I want to use 32 bit or 64 bit then the mouse and keyboard stop working.  They work fine in 2017 trial version that I have so I bought 2018  and now they don't work.  HELP

Mark, welcome to these User Forums.

How are your mouse and keyboard connected and which version of the recovery disc have you created?  Did you use the Simple or the Advanced media creation method?

What version of Windows OS do you have, and what type of computer?

I have been running the ATIH 2018 Beta version for some months and have tested the rescue media on USB sticks with no issues with USB devices for keyboard or mouse with either the 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

FYI, there is an issue with TI2018 and USB. (Win 10 Pro 64 bit, latest updates/drivers.)

When i had installed TI2018 and inserted a USB reader i got a blue screen. One of the errors is APC_INDEX_MISMATCH. I could reproduce it with several USB readers. I did just uninstall TI2018 and now i can insert my USB reader again. (http://www.lexar.com/products/card-readers/Lexar-Professional-USB-3-Dua…)

Have not yet contacted support.

I have Mouse and keyboard issues on my MSI PE70-6QE laptop as well. Both mouse and keyboard are listed as USB even though built in.  Linux recovery freezes with hourglass and never fully loads.  WinPE and WinRE both work fine. Tried to create Linux disc and even burned the .iso...no go

I wonder if this is related to "File Protection".  I have a USB card reader and will see if I can duplicate this error.

Roger...can you turn "Active Protection" off and see if you you get the same error.

I tried to disable Active Protection yesterday but it did not solve the problem for me. I work with video and connect the USB card reader several times a day so now i am back at TI2017.

I did send a report regarding this issue earlier today with more details to Acronis.

Roger...I can confirm that the same thing happens when I connect my Lexar Multi-Card USB 3.0 reader....  Active Protection on or off, card in the reader or reader with no card...every time I connected the reader I got the BSOD.

Thanks for sending the report to Acronis.

I have uninstalled ATI 2018 and the Lexar USB card reader works fine.  I have submited a report to Acronis.

Thanks! :)

I see that you got the same error as i got. I tested the same as you, with card/without card and even a different cable. I did send Acronis the MEMORY.DMP file that were created. I could also reproduce it with another non-Lexar reader.

Let´s hope for an updated version of TI2018 asap. :)

I purchased ATI 2017 last week and got the free upgrade to ATI 2018.

Then I went online and downloaded the ATI 2018 Boot ISO and burnt it to a CD.

It appears they forgot to include USB support in the downloadable ISO, because True Image doesn't show my USB 3.1 HDD drive using the boot CD.

I've already double checked this issue with the ATI 2017 boot CD and it was able to see my attached USB 3.1 HDD drive.

I am not sure if this only an issue with the online downloadable ATI 2018 ISO as I don't have the full retail ATI 2018 CD.

Hopefully this is solved with the latest build (25 August) - build 9207.

Ian

Karl, one point to consider with the downloaded Rescue Media .ISO is that this uses the older Linux kernel method for booting to the Acronis application and this in turn may not have the device support for some more modern USB devices.

I would recommend creating the Rescue Media on your own computer using the Simple method which will use the Windows 10 WinRE method for booting and which should have support for the latest USB devices.

Roger...I have downloaded and installed build 9207.  This build did fix the issue with Lexar USB readers.  I have not had any BSOD.

Hi,

i habe the same Problem with a older Lexmark x6650 Printer. But the Build 9207 not fix my BSOD.

Sven, welcome to these User Forums.

Please open a Support Case direct with Acronis Support for your BSOD and submit an Acronis System Report to them so that they can investigate this problem with you.

@Steve

The 2017 downloaded Rescue Media .ISO uses the same older Linux kernel method for booting to the Acronis application and it sees my USB 3.1 hard drive just fine.

Why remove something that was working fine before?

I never install the Acronis software on my PC, I always use the boot CD. It looks like I now need to clutter my windows install, just to make an Acronis rescue media.

Karl, thanks for your update - you need to open a Support Case direct with Acronis Support for this issue given that you can demonstrate that the ATIH 2017 Linux media works fine in detecting your USB 3.1 drive but the 2018 Linux media doesn't find the same.

This is something that only Acronis can fix by changing the code for the ISO download if you are not wanting to install the software to create the alternative versions of the rescue media.

Roger...I have downloaded and installed build 9207.  This build did fix the issue with Lexar USB readers.  I have not had any BSOD.

Yes, i tested it now and it seems to work! :)

Build your recovery CD with Linux. As you create it, you have the option of adding an additional startup parameter. Add (without quotes) "force_modules=usbhid". This fixed the mouse problem.  This info was provided by Acronis tech support.

Yup I have the same USB3.0 issue with when upgrading from 2017 to 2018 and it still is there with version 2019 of the LINUX BootMedia, WinPE works fine, and the MVP WinPE tool isn't updated yet to work with ATI 2019 or DD12.5 yet and it appears the newer Universal Restore module too, as I tried to install these and only got ATI 2019 to show up....

Wanting to get ATI,DD and Univ Restore all one one bootable cd or flash....

One thing tho I CAN use ATI2018/2019 USB3.0 to backup, but when I go to validate or recover I get a fail error, so if you reboot with image backup media hooked up to USB2.0 then I can validate and recover... on version ATI 2017 this all worked fine on USB3.0. so something happened to the USB drivers on ATI 2018 and 2019 Linux BootMedia. All SAME USB 3.x hardware that worked with ATI2017 now doesn't work with ATI 2018/2019. I dont understand this... hummm.

I tired using the Linux kernel parameters as suggested above

force_modules=usbhid

and it didn't work for me :(

WinPE & WinRe are done through ATI and as such you dont get DD and Univ Restore along with ATI on ONE bootable media. MVP Builder isn't capable yet (updated) for ATI 2019 & DD 12.5...

I would be surprised if this were the case. I have seen reports in the ATI 2019 Forum that indicate there are no issues creating MVP recovery media with both the latest builds of ATO and DD. I will be doing this later today an will report how I progress.

Robert,

As the author of the MVP Tool, I don't understand your issues. First, I'm not aware of Disk Director 12.5. Where did you get it? Second, the latest version of Universal Restore I just got downloaded from an installed version of TI 2019 is version 11.5.40067 which works fine. Also TI 2019 works fine as well. Do you have some connection with Acronis that gives you unreleased software versions to test?

This is working fine for me with the MVP tool - I have ATI 2019, DD 12.0 and the latest AUR versions all installed and present on the MVP rescue media with no issues.
