Using acronis universal restore on existing harddisk

Thread needs solution

Hi, I have ATI 2018 and I want to migrate my system to a new PC. I understand that one of the steps requires creating backup and restoring it later to the new PC. Once restore is compete I should run the universal restore. My question: Can I skip the backup and restore parts and simply move my current disk with the operating machine on it to the new PC and run universal restore? Or is the backup & restore parts required?

Dan, what version of Windows OS is involved here?

If you have Windows 10, then AUR may not be needed at all, as the OS has much improved handling for changes in hardware and discovery of / applying of device drivers etc.

There are other considerations involved here too:

How does your old PC boot from the BIOS into Windows?
Is this exactly the same for the new PC?

Again, if Windows 10, run the command msinfo32 and check the BIOS mode values shown for each PC.

Do each PC have the same edition of Windows for the same version?
Eg. are both running and have been activated for Windows 10 Home (or Pro or Enterprise)?
If the editions are different, then you will hit activation issues, especially if moving a Pro edition to a PC that has only been activated for a Home edition!

Making a full Disk & Partitions backup of your old and new PC's is highly recommended before embarking on any attempt at migrating from the old PC to the new one.

Are the disk drives used in both PCs of the same type and connection method?
i.e. do both use SATA drives or are different types of drives going to be involved?
