version compatibility

Hi,

Í want to use a new version of Acronis True Image.   My actual version is still 2010.

It is still saving my backups with succes, and so far I never had to recover them.

My main worry will be the compatibility.

If I upgrade to 2018 version.   Will I still be able to open my 2010 version backups and images ??

Hello Marien,

Acronis True Image 2018 supports archives created with Acronis True Image Home 2010 for restore. Other operations can be limited. It is necessary to create a new backup plan / archive (for more information see Backup archive compatibility across different product versions). Perhaps it would be better to install a free trial first, as Acronis True Image 2018 differs significantly from the older product versions and one would need to get used to it. I'd also suggest going thorough the following discussion on the same topic.

Thank you,

Hi,  I tested the trail 2018 version.  works with a total new look.  far so good.

Question:   Can I store/backup to a zip file?   Seems it can only be .tib

No. Only .TIB

Hi,  We did liked the Zip files, as we can openthem in other programs.

Does Acronis have another back up program like true image, that:

1. Makes a true image of a system drive, may be .TIB

2. Can also save tot ZIP

I thought to step from 2011 to 2018, as my 2011 version crashes on a zip backup.  Up to now I can not find the cause.

As the 2018 version has no Zip, It will not help me..

Which version has a zip file als lastest version?

Marien, sorry but there are no recent versions of ATI that would allow you to save your backup images to a .ZIP file format - only to the Acronis .TIB file format is offered.  I also don't know of any other backup software that would offer backups as .ZIP other than normal file & folder compression utilities, but not for backing up disks & partitions.  Only Acronis can open .TIB files.

You have not mentioned what version of Windows OS you are using here?

Hi,  I'm using windows 7 Ultimate.

ATI 2011 is my scheduled backup program.  It works fine if my system drive would crash.  Reinstal W7, than a recent system backup to the system drive and it is running as it recently did.  This did not occure yet, But I tested is three times on new laptops..

Since a few weeks I have  NAS, And run weekly backups to it. With ZIP. as this is easy to open.

Upgrading software is not Always a step forward, as I experienced now with ATI...  happens often.. :-(

I hoped one of the business applications would be a good upgrade..

Not sure if this will help, but you can open *.tib files in Windows Explorer, and for disk/partition images you can mount them as drives. Yo mount, select the *.tib file and right click, select Acronis True Image and the mount option.

Ian

Hi Ian,  O don't understand your answer.  It is not an answere to a question.

Marien, Ian was just pointing out that provided ATI is installed within Windows, then you can use the Windows shell integration feature which will allow you to open any .tib file by just double-clicking on the file in Windows Explorer.  If the .tib file is a disk & partitions backup image, then that can also be mounted to a Windows drive letter from Windows Explorer (by right-clicking on the .tib file and taking the Mount option from the Acronis True Image option shown in the drop-down menu).

This is not as flexible as having your images in .ZIP format where such files don't need ATI to be installed for opening the .zip file, but does provide a level of security that these files can only be opened on computers where ATI is installed.  .TIB files can also be protected by a password to encrypt them when they are created by ATI.

Oke,  I understand.  Thanks for the tip.

But as you say,  opening a Zip is easier
