Windows 10 - Can't create recovery media & restore from software hangs.
Acronis 2018 is unable to create successful Simple recovery media on USB or DVD.
USB just hangs at a blinking cursor.
DVD on boot has the Windows options asking if I want to boot from DVD. Normally I just select the boot device by pressing F8 and it boots to Acronis from the DVD. One reboot I selected to boot from DVD and the PC rebooted.
I have no problem with creating a bootable USB or DVD from 2017.
I tried to restore from Windows and it hung at trying to figure out how much time it was going to take. After 10 minutes I manually rebooted and imaged back to 2017.
What is with this Acronis Active Protection. You can only disable it, and why can't we uninstall that completely.

No, a 16GB Flash drive. I have no problems creating either a Simple USB flash recovery or a Simple DVD recovery media in 2017.
I also preformed a complete uninstall of 2017 using the correct method here before installing 2018.

Michael, I had something similar happen during ATI 2018 beta testing. After the first install, which was an upgrade install, ATI 2018 would not create USB rescue media. I did not try to create a DVD/CD rescue media.
I performed an uninstall, cleanup, and reinstall of ATI 2018 beta, and everything then worked fine...ATI 2018 created USB rescue media...no problems. I even performed another uninstall, reinstalled ATI 2017, then performed an upgrade install of ATI 2018... and this time, everything worked, including creating USB rescue media. My conclusion is that some kind of "glitch" occurred during the first upgrade install.
My recommendation is to perform an uninstall, cleanup, and reinstall of ATI 2018...then see if you are experiencing the same rescue media problem.

I preformed an update this time. I'm now able to recover from the Acronis software.
I created a Simple DVD and it does the same thing. I use F9, pick my DVD player to boot from, it boots from the DVD, asks me if I want to boot from the DVD, I press Y, the message goes away, the Windows logo displays for a split second, the cursor on the left starts blinking, and after 5 minutes it is still blinking.
I download the ISO to create a recovery disk from the Acronis site, and it does the same thing.
I did leave a message yesterday with support and they have yet to get back to me.

Don't waste your time on this as they have fixed the problem and should be available in the next release?

I have the same problem with creating bootable USB drive :( Is there any solution?

Michael,
How do you know this ?
And when is the next update due ?
Something like this even warrants an interim upgrade, I think ! After all, what good is a backup software, where you can't replay your images ?!
Kind regards

Danuta,
For what it's worth: I have no problems CREATING a rescue media USB stick - it's just that it's worthless...
Kind regards

Danuta, I have just created the 'Simple' WinRE Rescue Media on a 2GB FAT32 USB stick and was able to boot from this with no problems at all.
I normally use the MVP Custom WinPE Rescue Media and have used that many times to boot my computer and restore backups again with no problems. This was also built using ATI 2018.

The "Simple" method of creating Recovery Media uses the installed Windows OS systems Windows Recovery environment to create a bootable media used as an environment from which to run the True Image Recovery application. This method relies on WinRE which is normally located on the non lettered Recovery partition of a computer hard disk.
If you have issues with booting such media it is likely that the WinRE on your system is corrupt. If you cannot create the media at all it is likely that WinRE on your system is missing or is in a location other than the default so the builder cannot find find it.
In either case I would recommend that you choose the Advanced method of building media and create a WinPE based Recovery Media. This of course will require the download and installation of the WinPE ADK onto your system but this will enable you to create and use a Recovery Media which is essential if you need to restore an entire disk.
You can test WinRE by using Windows itself to create a Windows Recovery Disk. If that will create media and boot properly then so should creating essentially the same thing using the Media Builder tool Simple method.
If that indeed proves to be not the case then you should open a support case with Acronis to resolve the issue as further investigation is required to discover the problem.

I have an older system which will not boot from a USB device. I created a TI 2018 recovery DVD using the “Simple” method however, when I booted from that DVD my system would not recognize my USB mouse or my USB keyboard.
I subsequently created a recovery using the Linux-Based Media option (which was created automatically on TI 2017) and it worked correctly. I find it curious that this Linux option is not even mentioned in the TI 2018 User’s Guide.

Robert Frank This has been fixed. I was working with support and went through several itterations of the Recovery software.
It fails on my USB mouse. However it does work with a PS2 mouse. This has been fixed and should be available in the latest release.
I went back to 2017 as I wasn't happy with some of the new bloatware that is required in 2018.

Robert, please check that you have the latest build #9850 installed and if using the rescue media have created it since having this build. This can be found on the Account page of the GUI.

Hi Steve,
Yes I have build #9850 intstalled. I am fine with the Linux-based recovery disk. Is there any reason I should continue to try to create a different recovery disk?

Bob, the only reason for creating the alternative WinRE or WinPE media would be if you wanted to prove that the issues with detecting your USB keyboard / mouse was fixed, but if the Linux media is working fine for you - great!

The main advantage of the WinRE or WinPE media is that it has more extensive driver support and you can insert other drivers. As the Linux recovery media is working for you then your system does not use these drivers.

Let me just chime in here with my experience of the latest TI-2018 (9850) recovery media. The Linux media will happily boot and will let me connect to my Synology NAS via \\aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd notation. It then, correctly, prompts for a user and password. However, once entered, the browser freezes immediately after displaying the NAS shares. It is impossible to progress any further. This is true for both x32 and x64 TI boot options !
Exactly the same operation using TI-2015 Linux recovery media works perfectly.
Luckily, the WinPE recovery media for TI-2018 appears to function perfectly, across a number of different computers.

Steve, if you are willing to do so, then please submit a Support Case for the issue with the Linux version of the Rescue Media so that Acronis are both aware of the problem and have an opportunity to investigate why the ATI 2015 media works fine but the 2018 does not.
