Access to backup in Windows Explorer

Thread solved

Hi

I occasionally use the direct access fracility to my backups using Windows Explorer. I would like to know whether using this facility leaves any permanent data on my computer and if so where would it be located adn can it be deleted after use?

Eric, any temporary data would likely be found in the normal system places such as in the AppData folders or %temp folders etc.

Using any of the tools to clean up system data would remove it if any is present.  I have never seen any evidence of such data being left behind.

EricG, I don't think Explorer allows for this granularity, but I just accessed a backup from a few days ago and opened a pic on it, and then I used UltraFileSearch Lite (free) to search on Date Modified, Newer than, Date, 5/25/2022, 08:27:00 AM (just before I commenced the access) and it shows the relevant AppData\Local folders the pic was saved-to, and then the .jpg file itself. In my case all my TEMP file activity is in a DataRAM RAMDisk, and so the file was in there:

R:\Users\TomF\AppData\Local\Temp\{B5DC7AA5-97B3-4E21-A196-0A5DA7BB084B}\picilookedat.jpg

So yes this access leaves files on your PC and if they are sensitive you can use a file search tool to discover and remove them.

I use CCleaner to clear my RAMDisk temp files but I do also have it set to "only clear files older than 24 hours" so if I was really paranoid about the recent activity I would delete such by hand.

Hi

Thanks for the response - much appreciated.
