Access denied. You are possibly trying to work with other files or folders when working with 123xyz.inf

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I created a backup using ATI 2019 of my Windows 10 drive on my Asus laptop, with all of the factory software and driver's, as well as some of my personal software installed. I'm ultimately trying restore my laptop back to the state it was in when I created that backup.

Doing the file recovery is producing the error, "Access denied. You are possibly trying to work with other files or folders when working with the file name ...".

So, my question is how do I resolve this, and, even better, is there a way to restore my system using the backup I created rather than resetting my system and then copying over files from the backup? Older versions of Acronis True Image used to be able to do this. I would just restore from the disk image and the system would restart and install from the backup, rather than overwrite files.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Jeremy, welcome to these public User Forums.

Doing the file recovery is producing the error, "Access denied. You are possibly trying to work with other files or folders when working with the file name ...".

The above is the reason for your error!  You can do a file recovery for the Windows OS drive or partition from within Windows, and not recommended doing this even from rescue media.

If your original backup was of Entire PC / Disks & Partitions and includes the partitions on your computer, then you need to recover this at a Disk level.

See the following reference documents.

KB 61632: Acronis True Image 2019: how to create bootable media - for details of the 3 different types of rescue media.  Default Simple mode uses Windows Recovery Environment, then Advanced mode offers the older Linux media or Windows PE (using the Windows ADK).

KB 61621: Acronis True Image 2019: How to restore your computer with WinPE-based or WinRE-based media

When doing the restore of your backup, this needs to be done as a Disk & Partition restore and at the top Disk selection level.

Please see forum topic: [How to] recover an entire disk backup - and in particular the attached PDF document which shows a step-by-step tutorial for doing this type of recovery / restore.
