Acronis 2019 backup speed 100x slower over wireless

Thread needs solution

I have a question for the more experienced Acronis users out there. Backing up using Acronis True Image 2019 to a Synology DS916 NAS using their version of RAID (SHR).

When backing up my laptop PC (Thinkpad running Windows 10) and it is wired to my LAN, I get backup speeds well in excess of 50MB/sec, and up to 80MB/sec. So backups are super fast.

But when I try to run the exact same backups over WiFi, the backup speeds drop by a factor of 100x. I never surpass 1MB/sec and and typically around 600KB/sec.

How is backing up via wireless that much slower? I expected maybe a 2-3x slowdown but not 100x. I have gigabit ethernet in the house and a Netgear R7000 wifi router that is supposed to have (upto) 1300Mbps speeds.

Do I have something configured incorrectly in my wireless router? I guess I can always make sure I do backups when connected to RJ45, but would be nice to be able to backup wirelessly once in a while.

David, I do most of my backups of several computers over wireless to my own Synology NAS and definitely get better than 1MBps data transfer speeds as shown in the Activity page for my backup task below:

In my own case, my NAS is sitting in an office at the back of the house and connected by cable to my cable modem/router.  My computers are in other rooms using TP-Link powerline adapters to provide wireless access in those areas of the house across the mains electric circuits.

ATI just works with whatever connection your computer has, so any issues with performance would impact any other applications being used too.  There will be differences in performance between using wireless and wired connections - my backups are a lot quicker when I use a network cable but are fine over wireless.  I tend to run backups overnight so am asleep when they happen!

I have not noticed significant performance hit when backing via WIFI rather than Ethernet, either to the Acronis Cloud or to my NAS (like Steve I have a Synology NAS). I use an Asus RT-AC68U which is AC1900. Have you checked the QOS WIFI settings on your router as they may be depreciating the priority given to tasks such as creating backups.

If I recall my ancient HP Windows Tablet is only n rather than ac, and connects via a hotspot that is also only n, and it backed up both the NAS and Cloud at a reasonable rate (I have not used it since testing ATI 2016 so things could have changed).
