Acronis clone disk confused

Thread needs solution

I installed again Acronis because I wanted to use it for a clone disk as I have configured from start my PC and wanted to have a safety net in case any problems appear.

I created a clone disk (in an USB 3 drive) of my C (Windows+programs). When I have now that USB 3 plugged into my computer I cannot see the drive on MyPC. I can see it in my devices, I cann see it in Acronis but NOT on my PC with my other drives. Is this normal? I mean oncce it is cloned this drive cannot longer mount on windows and be seen (whats inside? ) Really confused about this

Hope someone can share some light as the drive seems fine , I have tried different usb ports. It is recognized by windows but I cannot access it.

Several possibilities suggest themselves to me. However, I need more information.

Please confirm you are using ATI 2019 and not ATI 2020.

What operating system version and build are you using? For example Windows 10 x64 build 2004. Does the PC use UEIF or Legacy/BIOS?

How many drives an partitions does the PC have?

Are you booting the PC with the USB drive attached?

Having a cloned drive is not something I do; I create disk and partitions backup of the SSD on which the OS is installed. I can use this to recover the system if things go pear shaped. I can browse the backup and recover files. If I recall correctly you can only mount disk and partitions backups if then use the older *tib architecture and not those using *.tibx architecture (introduced in ATI 2020).

Cristian, when you clone your OS drive, it is normal for the cloned drive not to be visible to the source drive (and reverse) because the act of cloning duplicates the drive signature to make both drives have the same value.

Cloning is intended to be used where the new clone drive will replace the source drive, so that both drives will not be present at the same time once the clone is done.

If you plug your external drive into a different PC then you should see the contents.

That was what I understood the case to be. I was very confused by the description of what was happening. I decided not to commit myself as it was well after my bed time so my mental processes were not at their peak.
