Acronis Survival Kit not working
I've just updated to TI 2019 and adapted my normal backup USB drive for Acronis Survival Kit and did a new backup. To test I then rebooted my laptop and my backup drive shows up in the list of drives. But when I try to boot from it, it doesn't work, it tries and then comes back to the same screen.
I then booted up my laptop and tried the Acronis Rescue Media Builder - Simple - and selected my backup drive. It works for a a couple of minutes then I get this error: "Unable to create bootable media. Cannot lock partition because it is in use by another process"
I rebooted again and tried again with the same result.
Maybe you can get this function to work in the next version of Acronis?
Thanks
Jan

Here is a screen shot of my Disk Manager. Disk 1 is my backup drive, (I've also attached the same image).
Thanks,
Jan

Jan, thanks for the screen image - this raises some questions.
Your Windows C: partition on Disk 0 shows as BitLocker Encrypted, therefore the Acronis Survival Kit will not see this drive or be able to operate on it, as there is no BitLocker support by default for the Survival Kit, or the standard Acronis Rescue media builder tool media.
Next, your Disk 0 also shows an EFI System Partition which requires that when you do use the Survival Kit or Rescue Media, that these need to be booted using the same EFI (UEFI) BIOS boot mode.
Finally, if you want to use the Acronis Rescue Media Builder - Simple media creation method, then your 2.00 GB FAT32 partition on Disk 1 needs to be given drive letter that can be selected with this tool. You cannot point the builder tool at your 3724.02 GB H: drive partition.
If you want to be able to access your BitLocker encrypted C: partition from Rescue Media, then you need BitLocker support included in the media - you can do this if you use the MVP Custom ATIPE Builder tool to inject BitLocker support into the rescue media, but you would need to then follow the help text in this tool for how to unlock the encryption from the rescue media. See my signature links for links to this tool.

It looks to me that the recovery partition was not created correctly. On my Survival Kit the recovery partition is called ACRONIS HM. This suggests the partition was not successfully created, as it should also show as FAT 32.

Had trouble finding this - looking at the wrong PC. Another seniors moment.

Thanks Steve for your thorough answer.
I leave the Bitlocker part out for now, I think the drive will be accessible directly after boot when I have logged in to the laptop, (not Windows).
The 2.00 GB FAT32 partition on Disk was created by the tool when I did my first backup with TI 2019. Enabling the Survival Kit was a selection for my destination drive. I marked that and started the backup. After that TI created the partition, which took a while, and then continued with the backup.
I think I have followed the Acronis instructions for creating a Survival Kit-enabled backup drive. I then rebooted my laptop and noticed that the backup drive wasn't bootable.
I then tried the "Acronis Rescue Media Builder" tool which also failed.
Looking at the 2.00 partition in Disk Manager I can't do anything but delete it, everything else is greyed out, and I want to point out that this partition was created by TI 2019 when making a backup, not by me.
Thanks,
Jan

Jan, I tend to agree with Ian'c comments that the 2GB partition does not look to have been created correctly. See the screen shot below from my own external HDD.
The size of my N: partition may be a little different but it should show as FAT32 format to be workable and bootable.
In my case, the Survival Kit process creates the Linux version of the rescue media because my laptop is an older Legacy/MBR system, but I prefer to use the WinPE rescue media (created using the MVP Custom ATIPE builder tool). I created my own 2GB partition on the drive using the free MiniTool Partition Wizard program, formatted this as FAT32, gave it a drive letter (N:) then pointed the MVP builder to use it for the rescue media creation. The standard Acronis Rescue Media builder tool will also work with the same N: FAT32 partition.

Ian's comment is interesting because I deleted the partition TI created and then I made TI create a new partition. When looking at the Disk Manager during the process I noticed that TI created a partition named "ACRONIS HM" but when the job finished the name was gone, and the disk was not bootable.
I "solved" the problem by going back to creating a separate bootable USB memory stick. This works, and I can also look at my encrypted disk which is unlocked during boot.
I've paid for an upgrade of a commercial product, so I will make a formal complaint with Acronis and see what happens.
Thanks guys for all your help, much appreciated :)
