Acronis TIH 2019 will not create a Rescue Disc (DVD).

I purchased, downloaded, and installed Acronis 2019.  When I attempted to create the Rescue Disc, Acronis 2019 failed 2 times.  I ruined 2 DVDs in the attempt.  The message said the discs were not the correct type.  They are Memorex DVD +R.  A friend of mine just installed the same version of Acronis on his computer and used the very same batch of DVDs to create his Rescue Disc with no problem.  Is this a know issue with Acronis 2019?

Thank you,

Nancy Hughes

Nancy, welcome to these public User Forums.

I am not aware of any known issues with creating DVD rescue media, especially given your friend was able to do this on a different computer.

In all honesty I haven't needed to use DVD's for rescue media for a long time as I find that USB sticks (2GB to 32GB size) are much more flexible, rewritable and convenient to use.

My friend is a long time user of Acronis and he attempted to create the Rescue Disc for me on my PC.  Even he was unable to do it.  I want a DVD rescue disc.  The attempt continues to fail.  If you can't solve this problem, just return my money and I will return to my old version of Acronis.

Thank you,

Nancy Hughes

Did you get your friend to try using the Rescue DVD he made on his computer on yours?

What exactly was the error message you saw?  Screen images are always helpful.
What type of rescue media were you attempting to create?

See the following reference document.

KB 61632: Acronis True Image 2019: how to create bootable media - for details of the 3 different types of rescue media.  Default Simple mode uses Windows Recovery Environment, then Advanced mode offers the older Linux media or Windows PE (using the Windows ADK).

Finally, download the MVP Log Viewer tool from the link to the Community tools in my signature and use this to check the TI_media_builder log that is created when you use the Acronis Rescue Media builder tool.  This should have more detailed information about what error is happening here?

Create the image to .iso first.  Then burn them to disc.  This is easy to do directly in Windows 10 and probably the fix in your case.  I suspect that your system is failing to create the disc "on the fly" because something is already queued up in your disc write cache, which is preventing ATI from being able to use it to burn the image directly.  This article gives a brief background about the issue and options to clear "files waiting to be written" that may still be cached.

Also, it's not impossible that the discs being used are failing or corrupted.  I've been in different forums where brand new batches of 25, 50 or even 100 discs were all duds (or had several in the group).  You never know how they were handled or stored since creation (or if the creation was a failure to begin with).  DVD's are not great for shelf-life and many of my own burned DVD collection fail to play after several years, even though they've just been sitting in a case in a dark closet the entire time.

Make the rescue media as you see fit, but please be aware that many new computers don't have DVD drives at all (Surface Pro, Macbooks, any ultra-laptop and most new tablets, 2-in-1's, etc.).  16GB USB flash drives are dirt cheap and probably going to save you some headaches with recovery down the road.
