Acronis True Image Back-up device not recognised

My other PC crashed; I wanted to restore some of the files on its Acronis Back-up device on my main computer.

Alas the device was not recognised as such on my main PC.

Surely there must be a utility to "repair" a Back-up device (using its inherent redundancy...).

Please tell me where I can find.

Rob, welcome to these public User Forums.

More information is needed to better understand what the issue here might be?

What is the backup device you are looking at here?
What filesystem does it use?
Does it have any encryption applied to it?

Do you have Acronis installed on your main PC?

Hello Steve,

The backup device is a WD elements 1TB; it uses the standard filesystem; no encryption used; I have Acronis True Image installed on my main PC.

It has a folder Acronis Backups and several specific folders.

I hope this will bring the solution within sight.

Kind regards,

Rob van Zijl

Rob, sorry to bounce back with more questions but was the screen image showing folders on the WD drive captured from the crashed PC or your main PC?

If it was captured on the main PC, then how is it not being recognised on that PC?

If you are expecting ATI 2019 installed on the main PC and are expecting it to show the backups stored on the WD drive, then you need to take some actions to cause this to happen.  In particular, you need to use the 'Add existing backup' option (found under the caret 'v' to the right of the normal + Add backup option) to select the most recent file for each backup stored on the WD drive, which will then create task entries in the main GUI using the file names selected.  Doing this will then give you the option of using the Recovery panel in the GUI.

The alternative method of accessing the data in those backup files is to double-click on the .tib file in Explorer which should open the archive and allow you to navigate its contents and use normal Copy & Paste controls to get files & folders.

See KB 61620: Acronis True Image 2019: how to restore files from a backup (Windows) for different methods of trying to recover your personal files from your available backup files.

Hello Steve,

The WD was of course from the crashed PC. Your reference to KB 61620 was successfully studied.

Thanks a lot.
