Acronis True Image cannot detect volume 1 of <backup name>

Thread needs solution

Another issue: I've tried to examine the contents of one of my backups. Try to use Mount command. It then throws the above error looking for the previous backup and then Windows asks for a password for my QNAP nas device. I thought I already had access both for my PC and Acronis to access the NAS machine. I don't want to have to change all the passwords - needless to say I can't remember them. Why is it suddenly asking for a password, which it already has?

Mark, any error where you see 'Cannot find version X' is normally caused because backup files have been deleted using Windows Explorer outside of ATI, and where this causes a mismatch between the files present in the destination location and information held by ATI in its internal database.

See KB 61844: Acronis True Image 2019, 2020 and 2021: How to delete old backups for the recommended method of managing unwanted backup files.

Any request for credentials are related to the above when Acronis is searching for the missing / deleted files based again on information it has stored in the internal database.

Steve, is there any fix for this? I mistakenly deleted incremental versions of a backup using windows explorer. I still have the initial full version, but receive the error "Acronis True image cannot detect volume 2 ...". Is there any way to repair this backup so that I can access the files within it?

The only way I can think of is to delete incremental backups following the one accidentally deleted (up to the next full backup) - I suspect you will not be able to do this in ATI itself, so will have to do so from explorer. Once you have done so, validate the backup from within ATI GUI. When an error message appears click on "ignore". This will only work if you are using ATI 2019 or earlier.

Daniel, assuming that these were .tib incremental files that you deleted, then there are two options that you can try to remedy the error messages:

  1. Perform a validation of the backup task and let it pop up error messages for all the missing files.  If offered take the Ignore option on the error message, otherwise the Cancel option.

  2. Use the Delete option for the backup task but elect to only remove the task settings (not delete the task and all files).  After doing this, then use the option to 'Add existing backup' to select the most recent remaining full version for the task.  This will add the task back but it will still need to be 'Reconfigured' for the source, and options.
