Acronis True Image Cloud storage filling up

Thread needs solution

I have 2TB of storage on my account. I have 1.12TB of data to back up.  I have been using this service for just under one year.  I just received an alert that there is 30% of storage remaining.  I assume Acronis uses some form of incremental backup, and I also assume that the backup files are compressed.  If my assumptions are correct, I do not understand how my backup can grow to be so much larger than the amount of data I am backing up. Please explain. Thank you.

I see you are a Mac user, so things may be different to what happens with Windows based system (I only have Windows based systems). You are correct that the backups are incremental. There was a recent post by Ekaterina the Forum moderator explain how the process works. Cannot find it at the moment; but, if I recall correctly there is an initial backup and incremental changes are dealt with on a block by block basis. The clean-up rules are used to remove backed-up blocks that are no longer need for the retained backups. As the process is block based, defragmenting of the dives will (I would conclude) increase the number of blocks uploaded and needed to be retained. Major OS updates for Windows result significant amount of blocks changing and thus the size of the cloud backup. Not sure if same thing happens with Mac OS updates.

PS I am making this comment based on my recollections of how Ekaterina described the process and it may not be particularly accurate for various reasons (including the possibility of a senior's moment).
