Acronis True Image stopped working, "Failed to create volume snapshot" issue

Thread needs solution

Hello

I have an issue with Acronis True Image 2019. One day program stopped making back ups. Schedule is set up as it should be. When I try to make back up manually program shows this message: "Failed to create volume snapshot". I already downloaded Acronis VSS Doctor and underneath is report from it. I really need this program to start working ASAP. Thanks in advance for any help.

Michal, welcome to these public User Forums.

The VSS Doctor report is highlighting an issue as shown below:

The VSS writer rejected the event with error 0x800423f4, The writer has encountered a non-transient error. This error is likely to occur when you retry the backup. . Changes made by the writer to its components while handling the event will not be available for the requester. Search the log for related events from applications that support the VSS writer. Operation: PrepareForSnapshot event Context: Execution context: Writer Writer class identifier: {a65faa63-5ea8-4ebc-9dbd-a0c4db26912a} Writer name: SqlServerWriter Name of the writer instance: SQL Server 2008 R2: SQLWriter Writer instance ID: {3a147236-1142-4080-8356-a01f042317e0} Command line: 'C: \\ Program Files \\ Microsoft SQL Server \\ 90 \\ Shared \\ sqlwriter.exe' Process ID: 3316

Do you have any active SQL database applications, if so, then you either need to stop these before your backup task runs, or else exclude the applications and related SQL data from the backup task.

I think that this isn't a point. I already had active SQL database applications before that issue occurred.

Michal, have you tried your backup when your SQL application(s) is/are inactive?

What does the log for your backup task show?

There is a new MVP Assistant log viewer tool that has now been made available by Acronis via the Community Tools page..

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.
