Active Protection needed?

Thread needs solution

The 2019 version comes with active protection, and I'm wondering if that's what slowing my system down a bit. I run MS Security Essentials and MalwareBytes Pro, both of which run n the background. Is it possible to disable the Acronis active protection? IF so, any thoughts about performance issues or disabling ti?

Thanks.

Philip, Acronis Active Protection shouldn't have a big performance hit on your computer but it is possible that having MalwareBytes Pro could contribute to such issues when AAP is also present, as both may be trying to do the same type of protection.

You can test by finding the AAP icon in the system tray area (blue shield icon with 'A') - right-click on this and use the option to 'Turn off AAP'.

To turn AAP off completely, you would also need to open the Services.msc control panel and stop the associated AAP service, then change the start-up type to be 'Disabled'.

I would recommend looking at KB 60193: Acronis True Image 2018 and 2019: Active Protection blocks legitimate applications - and using this to white-list your MalwareBytes and Security Essentials applications for AAP.

I have the same setup. No performance issues on my end with Malwarebytes pro and MS essentials.

I would check task manager and see what is your biggest performance draw. Then disable AAP and see if it makes much difference or not.

You really don't need two ransomware tools running at the same time though. I'd opt for Malwarebytes as the primary if it comes down to picking one over the other. However, again, no issues running both on my end.
