ATI 2019 ignoring exclusions list
Hi all,
As per subject, my installation of Acronis True Image 2019 is no longer honouring the exclusions set in the backup. settings.
This started a month or so back on a backup, configured as a differential with 26 versions before creating a full backup, for a single drive on a weekly schedule. As an attempt to remedy this I restored the last exported backup settings configuration and renamed it but I'm getting the same result. Nothing in the backup settings had been changed in the weeks before the problem occurred out of the blue - I simply got a notification that the backup had failed for low disk space even though there was 200GB free on the destination, and even the full backups <100GB.
As a result the backup now takes a ridiculous amount of time and has jumped from 90GB compressed to 250GB compressed (source drive contains a total of ~440GB of data, half of which was excluded)
I'm on build 17750.
Cheers for any ideas.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the suggestion. Last week I recreated the backup from scratch and manually excluding the folders and/or files from the tree rather than in the exclusions tab and got it back to <100GB compressed. That ran last week.
It's a weekly DIFFERENTIAL with automatic cleanup set to 26 versions and generally only increased beyond a baseline few GB per week of the first differential if I moved some files about, which was rare - it's only the system drive.
However, it's now doing another FULL backup the same as last week (<100GB) with nothing having been changed with regards the backup settings since it last ran. It should only be performing a DIFFERENTIAL.
I'll force another DIFFERENTIAL later today and see what happens. If that fails, I might try an uninstall and reinstall and another manual recreation of the backup rather than restoring from the settings backup I made last week.

Tony, one other explanation for why a full backup might happen is if any bad sectors are encountered and if so, causes the task to use sector-by-sector backup mode which in turn ignores exclusions!
You can check the log for the backup task to see if that mentions anything to suggest the above is happening or you could create an Acronis System Report zip file, then extract the disks.txt report file from it and look at the information at the top of the report to see if any partitions on your disk are showing an 'E' error indicator in the right end columns (normally B or C).
Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?
The latest version of the new log viewer tool can be downloaded via this link.
If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.
If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.
Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.
The Schedule2 log contains information related to scheduled task but is one of the more difficult logs to read / work through.
The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

Hi Steve,
Thanks - I'll have a look at that. I doubt it's a bad block though as there's no other indications of that - the system is extremely stable.
The manual DIFFERENTIAL I performed yesterday worked correctly. I shall see how the next automatic one goes, due Saturday the 6th August at 4am.

Tony, your screen image of the backup files is showing a regular occurrence of backups being split into up to 3 segments with a max size of 104,857,600 KB shown for the 2nd & 11th July, so do you have any file split value set in the Advanced Options for this task?
One other area to check is in the Power options for USB Selective Suspend if you are using a destination drive connected via USB, as there can be occasions where the processing time needed by Acronis can be such that the USB drive could go into suspend mode?
How are you achieving the file name changes for each run? Are you using such as @DATE@ in the underlying Script .tib.tis file?

Hi Steve,
The latest backup went through as a differential at 9GB. Although much bigger than it should be, I can live with that.
I had splitting set to an arbitrary 100GB split because the backup should never have gone over 100GB - until it started playing silly buggers with the exclusions. Backup destination is a network share and there's no power saving set on it. No WiFi used by me either except for devices that don't have ethernet. I haven't set any destination file name modifications - I've never even look into doing that - wasn't aware it was an option.
