ATI 2019 Slows apps even with Active protection turned off
I got Acronis True Image 2019 primarily to clone my SSD for backup purposes. When I installed ATI1 2019 on my brand new Dell XPS15 7590 laptop, I noticed that the launch time for several apps (Simpify 3D, MS Visual Studio, Excel, Word among others) all increased drastically, from a few seconds to 30-40 seconds.
After looking into task manager, I noticed there were a lot of ATI-related services and background tasks running, and I wasn't aware of having made any app-related decisions to put them there. After some more research I ran across the 'Active Protection' information, and (since I already have McAfee running) decided to turn AT's AP feature OFF. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem - the long load times remained.
So, I completely uninstalled ATI, rebooted my machine, and voila! all the app load times returned to normal. This is stupid behavior on ATI's part; I don't want their stupid 'Active Protection' crap on my machine, but it appears that I'm going to get it whether I want it or not. Since I only want ATI for SSD cloning, my plan is to simply leave it uninstalled until I want to clone, then install, clone, uninstall. Rinse, repeat.
