ATIH 2019 and USB 3.1 Support

Thread solved

I was thinking of installing an add-in PCIe host card to a desktop PC that supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 and connecting it to a portable SSD.

Would an ATIH 2019 bootable drive detect the SSD in this setup ?

Denna, the answer has to be 'it depends....!'

If your add-in PCIe host card requires additional / special device drivers, then these may also need to be added to the ATI 2019 bootable media in order to correctly recognise the card and any attached USB 3.1 devices.

Most likely, yes.  But, as Steve mentions, you might need to include drivers for third party add-in cards in rescue media as well.  If you build rescue media with the WinRE method (after the card is installed and drivers are loaded in the main OS), those drivers would be added to the WinRE rescue media automatically.

FYI, just be aware that you can never boot a restored Windows OS drive via USB - that is a limitation of Windows not allowing this.

Steve Smith and Bobbo_3C0X1,

   Thanks for the detailed responses.

The USB controller's FAQ states the drivers are built into Windows 10.

The goal is to create an ATIH bootable flash drive that can access an external SSD connected to an add-in USB host card.

Which build type of ATIH bootable flash drive should be used ?

If the USB controller drivers are integrated into Windows 10, then you should just need to create the default 'Simple' version of the rescue media after you have installed the controller card and this should pick up all required drivers.
