The backup failed. Ensure that destination is accessible

Thread needs solution

Hi

I have been trying unsuccessfully to back up my laptop over recent days

Today restated my Laptop and tried to create a new Backup to a SSD drive I had formatted ( Drive D:)

When I started Acronis True Image 2020  I selected Add Backup and . It added User-PC to the source and I selected a folder on the SSD Drive ,Drive D: for the backup .

Then I started the backup

It asked me if i wanted to make a recovery backup . I selected Create .

It created the recovery backup successfully . I thought GREAT ! it is working .

Then it went to backup the drive data to the folder  .

After a shot delay it stopped with a message that the destination drive was inaccessible .  I had this also previously . I have run Chkdsk on Drive D: and it is not reporting any problems .  No information or help or diagnostic help was given to diagnose the problem .  I have been trying to back up now for about 3 days . Each time i see this problem .Sometimes after i start the backup is see the message Backup started . Calculating Time Remaining . There is no progress shown on the % complete bar . This message can be displayed for an hour or more . Then it reports an error . I have opened Drive D: in Explorer  and I can create files on it  . What is really confusing is it created the recovery backup today successfully , but when it started  the drive backup writing to the same Drive ( Drive D:)  it stopped with an error reporting that the drive was inaccessible . WHY?      Is this a bug?   There is very poor help provided to diagnose the problem . See attached a screen shot of the screen after it stopped the backup and reported the "inaccessible destination problem"  Help will be very gratefully received . Please help if you know how to solve this issue or help me trouble shoot what is causing the problem . Note , I have not disabled the anti-virus software so far , should I do so ?

Eamonn, welcome to these public User Forums.

The reason for your issue here is because you have used the default source selection of 'Entire PC' (aka - User PC in your image) which includes the D: drive that you are trying to backup to!

What you need to do is to click on the Source selection panel when it shows either 'Entire PC' or 'User PC' which will then show a list of further options, one of which is 'Disks & Partitions' - select that option and you will see all the internal drives in your PC.  Now select just the main OS disk drive, i.e. C: with all its partitions as the Source for your backup task.

Once the Source is set correctly, you can now select the internal D: drive as the Destination without any conflict with Acronis locking that drive because it is included in the Source!
