Backup fails attempting to backup GLOBALROOT\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy file.
I am backing up my system using Acronis True Image 2019. Recently, one of my four backup jobs has been failing with this message:
Failed to back up file or folder. \\?\GLOBALROOT\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy29\Backups\iCloudDrive\Documents\Chanukah Recipes.pdf. It may be blocked by another application.
I have researched this and can't find a solution. I have tried the following:
1. Disable Volume Shadow Copy,
2. I have tried using vssadmin to delete the copy. When the Acronis error is displayed, the shadow file is shown by the command list shadows. But when I try to delete it with the delete shadows cmd the error is:
C>vssadmin delete shadows /Shadow={e2be3f39-6019-44c4-965c-4a14e514c68d}
vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool
(C) Copyright 2001-2013 Microsoft Corp.Error: Snapshots were found, but they were outside of your allowed context. Try removing them with the backup application which created them.
The number in the \HarddiskVolumeShadowCopyxx is incremented each time I run Acronis. It appears related to iCloud Drive. I have deleted and reinstalled iCloud for Windows, but the issue persists. At this point, I don't have any solution.
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for the information. Because what you said got me thinking a little differently about the problem, I have figured it out what was happening. I had taken careful steps to delete the problem file from the live iCloudDrive folder, so I thought that the Shadow Copy file that was causing the error was related to something wrong on my system, hence the post. I also logged out of the iCloudDrive account, which in the case of Apple's iCloud for Windows app, causes all files in the local iCloud folders to be deleted. (A terrible design IMHO.)
But still the backup was failing. So I looked closer to the path described with the vssadmin command and realized that the folder was a copy I'd made of the iCloud folder when I was having an iCloud issue. So once I deleted that folder copy, the backup was successful.
Thank you for your help.
