Backup fails with "not enough space" even if there is a lot of space availible

Thread solved

Hi, I'm using True Image 2019 since a year and it was working quite fine until now. However, since a week backups of my Win10 computer is failing with the error message: "There is not enough space on the volume where the snapshot storage is located. Please free up additional space to complete the operation successfully." This is quite strange as even True Image is showing 2.2TB free on a 2.6TB Network drive. As well my Surface is able store backups on same drive. Just the Win10 computer seems to have that issue. I tried to find some more details using the Log Viewer, but there is not that much information. Just found this message: "E000101F6: Error 0x101f6:" Attached a screenshot as well as the error log. Maybe someone has an idea where to investigate.

Michael, welcome to these public User Forums.

The message:  "There is not enough space on the volume where the snapshot storage is located. Please free up additional space to complete the operation successfully." does not refer to your Destination location with over 2TB of free space, instead it refers to your Windows OS source drive (Samsung 840 Evo SSD) which does not have enough free space.

Please download the free Acronis VSS Doctor tool and run this as Administrator to check for any errors related to the Microsoft VSS snapshot process, and let it try to resolve any that it can.

Hi Steve,

many thanks for the hint with the source drive and the Acronis VSS Doctor tool. I found some "hidden + not used" partition on my SSD. I removed everything from backup source, except C:. So, my backup is running again now, but it's a little bit strange because these partitions are there since ages and never caused an issue.

Michael, please be careful that your hidden / not used partition is not one that is required by your Windows OS to boot correctly if doing a recovery?

If you have a UEFI system then the EFI System Partition is one such partition..

Steve,

no I don't have an UEFI system. It's still a normal BIOS :)

I cleaned the unused partition's and I'm able to do full backups of my whole SSD again now. So thx for your hints, as it was helping me to find the cause.

Michael, glad to read that your backups are working again, thank you for the update & feedback.
